I dont think the games are necessarily getting easer, but they are defiantly getting shorter. I think the try to put more cut scenes than game play. Games like LAIR are the poster child for this.

If you are a hard core gamer, get the PS3. Its a lot more powerful than the Wii. If you are using it for a family console, get the wii, its more family oriented.

You definatly want them angled at the seating. I would mount them above the screen and point them downwards. You should still get the sound direction you are looking for.

I have had no problems with my playstation3. The quality is great with the HDMI connection. I would agree the remote is kinda of pain, but once you get used to it, your fine.
