Were the original prints really so yellowish? I actually have seen this website before, but it's been a while. Although I have never seen a 1939 print, even the 1961 print looks really yellow.
Mr. Harris, to begin with, I respect you tremendously and look forward to reading all your disc reviews. I have followed you for years and appreciated your restoration work. I know and fully agree about the massaging that would be needed. I am assuming you are saying this because of the many...
GWTW needs to be released in 4k. I understand the controversy, but the theatrical digital prints now include an introduction placing context to the film. So does HBO MAX and it offers some enlightening panel discussions. The video should include these, of course. The film still has millions...
I believe some films, like "Brigadoon" (MGM), "Lust for Life" (MGM) and "The High and the Mighty" (Warner) were released in both stereophonic sound and Perspecta.
Oh, I would LOVE to see a Perspecta version of "The Trouble With Harry"!
I do believe you are correct, because some of the overseas and Mexican advertisements and posters for the 1954 Perspecta/ "wide-vision screen" reissue of "Gone With the Wind" (which was also cropped) are billed as being in "Metroscope".
I watched "This Island Earth" last night and was blown away by the restoration. The image was gorgeous-the colors popped off the screeen and the new Perspecta track was beyond impressive. It rivals any stereophonic process and did not sound at all like mere mono tracks.being shuffled from...
I really need help. Twelve years ago I set up my living room with a 92 inch (diagonal) Stewart motorized drop down screen and a Sony VPL AW 10 projector. The projector and screen were professionally installed and the projector was ceiling mounted about 11 feet from the screen.
Today, i...
Quite honestly, GWTW is still a moneymaker, even recently. As I stated before, last year's 80th anniversary theatrical reissue netted Fathom Events their highest EVER gross for a classic movie and many other theater chains did well with it, too. Besides, Turner Entertainment is part of Warner...
I have to admit I would love to see the 70mm version too. I saw it as a kid in 1970, but it was a 35mm Metrocolor mono version in my neighborhood theater. I would love to know also how discrete the 6 track stereo soundtrack was from that reissue.
This is the thing that I can't get over
And thank you for bringing that up. Last year GWTW was the highest grossing classic film of ALL time for Fathom. No one in these Newspaper articles lately seems to acknowledge that. This is important to note. And I can tell you that not everyone that...
Hi, Suzanne, yes, I know. Here's what I said earlier:
So far, Warner has cancelled two screenings that were to occur this weekend - one in Paris and the other in IL. So, I did see the video they posted. Very interesting>
With all due respect, I am not asking about WarnerMedia's plans for HBO Max, I understand what they plan to do. I am interested in their future plans for theatrical distribution. GWTW became Fathom Events' top grossing classic movie of all time last year and the film also was shown in several...
Does anyone know how I could contact WarnerMedia regarding GWTW? Believe it or not, back in the 1970s, when I was a kid, I used to type letters to George Feltenstein, who was President of MGM and he always wrote me back! There has to be a way to do this, but I don't have any contact info. I...
Yes, this is my fear, as well. Is there any way to correspond with anyone at WarnerMedia to get some idea of their plans? I have written to a few people, but received no reply.
Can somebody explain that to me? I saw the film 10 times this year and most of the time there were quite a few younger audience members. While I realize the film is definitely problematic, if there weren't a significant audience still out there for the film, it certainly would not have been so...
While controversial, let's not ignore the fact that GWTW in January and February became Fathom Events' highest grossing classic movie presentation of all time. Take a look at the other remarkable films that have been shown, including "The Wizard of Oz" and you'll see what an achievement that...
