Can someone fill me in as far as HLG? I mean, I’m aware of it’s general usage intention but are any channels or companies using it yet?

Sound bars for the hearing impaired

You’d likely want to pick one where each channel’s volume can be adjusted, as well as being able to adjust the bass/treble — or at least a setting that is intended to improve speech. I used to have a Vizio 5.1 sound bar where this could be done (affordable, sounded good when it worked). I have a...

Blu-ray Review Santa Claus Conquers the Martians Blu-ray review

You’d probably want to email Kino, as I really don’t know. I’ve had the bds for a few years (or whenever they came out). EDIT: I take it back. The one on their site shows the Horizon one. I imagine you’ll receive the right edition...

A SNEAK PEEK AT MELVIN AND HOWARD, STAGECOACH, etc.

I once worked at a mental health center where an employee picked out THE SNAKE PIT as the movie for the day program clients to watch one day. The employee didn’t know how traumatic it would end up being for the clients to watch. Whoops!

Anyone upgraded from Vizio 2.1 sound bar to 5.1?

Sound bar question (yes, I know which forum I'm at...): has anyone here upgraded from Vizio's sb3621n-e8 or sb3621n-f8m to one of their 5.1 sound bars (such as sb3651-f6). If so, how well do their satellite speakers work? Do they add a worthwhile surround improvement? And are the sound bar and...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Rec Collection -- in Blu-ray

The first film is excellent. Intense and unrelenting. The opening really takes its time to set things up, but it makes you wonder what’s happening and gets the viewer to really identify with the main characters. Then it becomes a real rollercoaster that doesn’t let up til the end credits. It is...

    What is your favorite commentary?

FACES OF DEATH has an excellent, enlightening commentary from the director. One of the very best I’ve ever heard — truly. Any commentary with Larry Cohen is also top-notch. A real lesson in filmmaking any time he speaks.

A PEEK AT JACK THE RIPPER

I wasn’t pissed off at Severin over this. Disappointed in the main transfer, yeah. But I’m familiar with their releases, got plenty of their dvds and bds. They range from being excellent to a bit problematic. It’s always been best to have low expectations, that way you end up being happy when...
