    New Mid-priced Receiver

In the spirit of recommending something different, take a look at the new line of Elite AVRs from Pioneer. From my research, they seem to be better performers, less problematic, run cooler, have larger feature sets and are FAR more attractive. See if you can fit the Elite SC-05 into your budget...

    Why is DLP so unpopular?

Holycrap that sounds like one SKINNY TV! It would be as long as a football field, and something like 1" high. It would be really hard to watch a movie on a TV screen with an aspect ratio of 30,000 : 1

    which speakers and subwoofer

It seems to me that you are on a major budget considering you want to go with something like the Klipsch quintet III. But perhaps your audio budget isn't high enough comparred to your video budget? In any regards, here are a couple recommendations that will get you FAR more audio performance on...

Help with furniture! Need advice on TV stands and Audio racks.

So right now my entire home theater is setup on one large coffee table, and one small end table. Well, the time has come to where I need to put the coffee table back in front of the couch, and the end table back on the end :D So what I need, is a) a TV stand, and b) an audio rack to hold my...

    New and helpless....

I highly recommend the Pioneer Elite VHX-01. Can be found in the low $500s... 7.1, so you can run 5.1 in one room, then stereo to a second zone. Now, whether or not it can play two different things to both zones at the same time, i have no idea.

I agree... its about the worst place you could mount your TV, second to maybe the cealing.

    Comparrison: Pioneer VSX-01TXH - Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K

Thanks Gene.. I am really not intested at all in the Yamaha or Onk... I was solely interested in the difference between teh 1018, and the 01 from pioneer. I really like that elite, but if the only differences is the 12v plugs on the back, I will pass. CERTIANLY you get more from stepping up to...

    Comparrison: Pioneer VSX-01TXH - Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K

Thanks Gene... So according to that comparrison, there really isn't any difference between any of them... and the vsx01 doesnt' have a sub pre-out? Somethings not right there...

    Comparrison: Pioneer VSX-01TXH - Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K

Hello again all.. I am very very new to the HT world, and have started piecing my 5.1 system together recently. I am very budget minded ($2000 - $2500 total) and planned out a budget for all my pieces put together, and then tried to find the most bang-for-buck I could, in each category. I am...

    should I make this sub?

I don't think that's entirely true. Look at JL for example... the W7 is used in car and home theater. The W6 plays even lower than the W7 and I doubt would have any problems hitting all the necessary lows that a movie can put out. Granted I know nothing about the sub he is referring to specifically.

Do I need a new CD player?

Hey Gene, any advice on the difference between one of the oppo dvd players, and the pioneer I have listed above? (found on newegg). They both seem to be able to play the same stuff, both have USB input, etc... But the oppos are between 200 and 300 bucks, and the pioneer is 80. Ideas?

Two 10" sub comparrison - SVS vs. ED

Thanks for more info, Robert. I am definitly leaning towards the SVS subs for bang-for-the-buck, but I don't want to make the mistake of getting the 10, then only ending up wishing I had the 12" driver. At what point (room size, application, etc) would the 10 become inadequite?

Do I need a new CD player?

I just read up on the squeezeboxes. Seems like a pretty good way to go, maybe later after I have the entire system up and running. I think what I will be doing for now, is ditching the CD player alltogether, and just playing them through my DVD player. Im looking at the oppos and the Pioneer...

Two 10" sub comparrison - SVS vs. ED

Ok, thanks. That of course makes sense. Right now I rent, so there isn't really a fixed size room my home theatre will live in. I would have to say the room wouldnt be larger than something like 14 or 15 feet on the long edge. I think a 300 watt 10" driver will certainly be plenty. I listen to...

Do I need a new CD player?

Thanks again gene... I was actually able to find some CD players on crutchfield and was shocked at their price! There are some over 300 bucks! and yes, my old kenwood only has analog RCA outputs. Whats this with oppo? I'v never heard of them.... I DO need a new a good upscaling DVD player with...

Two 10" sub comparrison - SVS vs. ED

Robert.. thanks for the recommendation. It appears to be the better driver to me as well. I have the NSD-10 in my budget for my new setup... and I think it is what I am going to go with. Do you think it will make a good match with a pair of Polk RTi10s? I don't see why not?

Do I need a new CD player?

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I am sold on the pioneer 1018 receiver, and a pair of polk RTi10s for my front stage. I never even thought of playing my CDs through my DVD player... And I do listen to a heck of a lot of CDs through my system, so a decent source signal from my player is...

Do I need a new CD player?

Hey all.. i'm in the middle of researching a full 100% replacement and upgrade into a 5.1 system with the works. As mentioned in another forum, my original setup is from 1990 or so. A kenwood amp/receiver, cd player, and some average speakers. Anyway, now that I am replacing my receiver...

I see I see. Thinking about it... i really can't picture a time where I would disconnect them to set up elsewhere for bookshelf use. They would be pretty dedicated dipole/bipole. BTW, I think I have narrowed my sub search to two subs... I made a thread about them here on the speaker forum. I...

Two 10" sub comparrison - SVS vs. ED

Since I am on a relivatilvly tight budget, I have narrowed my choice of subs down to these two based on many recommendations I have found via searching my tail off on the forums here. Out of these two, which would you pick and why? It looks like one is a tad more powerfull, but a tad more...
