It has been enjoyable reading all these snippets of history on the Bond movies. My first showing at a theater was "Diamonds are Forever" at 13. I then followed up with each theatrical release up through "Moonraker", but the ending with Jaws was too comical for me. When rental and movie...

Actually, I'd say it is the reverse, just as true...
I checked a Walmart in Germantown. MD with no luck. Part of the problem is that they have multiple bins that they keep full so it is hard to really dig around and see what might be towards the bottom. I suspect it might get a full release someday. I can wait.

That great that they are releasing season 2 already. However, I'll have to wait until it goes below $70 like season 1 before making a purchase.
I don't like my viewing to be dictated by region coding. With all things being equal i will obviously choose Region 1. However, if another region has something of interest not available in region 1, or the quality of the release is better, or the price cheaper, I won't hestitate to purchase from...
Interesting article.
I admit it, I was 13 when Happy Days came out and i was a fan for a good part of it. The later years were more difficult to watch, but hey we didn't have a lot of options back then either.
As far as DVD's are concerned, i have the first three seasons, but I haven't watched...
This may be true. I guess it is good that i never watched the original broadcast of "24" in HD because I have had no problem enjoying it on DVD in SD ever since I got lucky and purchased the first six seasons at Best Buy during the pricing mixup a few years back.
For me, it comes down to whether I already have it on DVD (expense to double dip), how much of a favorite it is, the extent of improvement that can be obtained through a blu-ray upgrade, and how much the improvement would make an impact on my viewing pleasure based on the type of show.
- I...
I think it may have been more to do with not knowing if many would remember the show itself, so they marketed it based on the most well-known of the guest stars instead. Kind of like being a Washington native several years back when the Bullets/Wizards (who continue to be bad) of the NBA weren't...
That is yet still another possibility that they are burned but just happen to look like pressed disks. We've always gone off the idea of what a burned disk traditionally looks like. Also, the fact that we can't ID their disks has always made it difficult to know what they are using. They've...
While I'm not a 3D enthusiast, i can at least say I have nothing against wearing the glasses if it help the realism vs. trying force a no-glasses approach that may not really be feasible for some time.
My experience is probably limited to most that would reply to this thread. I have seen a few movied many years ago, Terminator 3D and T-Rex in orlando quite a few years ago, Mickey Mouse 3D in Disney World more recently, and some TV demos with glasses at Costco. Personally, I'm also not big on...
Interesting...I thought our setup's were very similar before (even down to the bean bags for the front row seating), Now i see we have similar taste is speakers as well. I have three M&K 150's up front with the M&K350 sub, and four M&K SS200's along the sides and back. BTW, the Carada screens of...
I don't know whether it has been confirmed, but there was a discussion in another threadt hat indicated WB might now be doing an initial limited run of pressed disks with burned disks to follow when they run out. This seems like a logical approach since a limited run could cost less then burning...
I have a very similar setup regarding room size, seating and acoustic treatments. Based on my experience I would:
- Get a screen but don't break the bank to do it. I've have had a 92" Vutec Silverstar since 2004. If to do again, I would probably go a bit bigger on the screen like you (up to...
I'm not sure "complaining" is the right word. My recollection was that there was mention of a few things still not perfect, but for the most part everyone that received the set was ecstatic to have it. I think it would be great if it was 100% corrected. However, I will be happy with the 2011 set...
Yes, Night Court is dual layer. It is fairly standard to fit four 50 minute shows or eight 25 minute shows. Anything beyond that and it starts to get a bit iffy.
Yes, everything basically has some compression, but they've gotten better over time, such as with blu-ray (which also offers a much higher capacity). The first offerrings from WB were single layer DVD-R's, but these generally weren't bad at all. First, the movies tended to not be long and the TV...
Yes, but It's not that they couldn't do dual-layer because they could since dual-layer blanks are readily available, it's just that I doubt most do. A blank single layer can be found for for under 20 cents a disk, while dual layer is still up around a $1 a disk. To sell cheap you have to produce...
You are correct, a bit is a bit, so the actual digital content would be identical between a DVD-R and a pressed DVD. The only potential issue is the longevity of a DVD-R that is often debated.
As for getting a bootleg DVD-R, that comes with another potential issue as well. Typically, bootlegs...
I've picked up a few MOD TV sets and movies from WB. The DVD-R for one of the Tarzan films was a bad burn and had to be replaced. The early attempt by WB to support dual layer DVD-R's didn't go well either and the product had to be pulled. So just like commercial pressed DVD-18's (dual...
Okay...but in the context of what we are seeing, the final result may be anamorphic (especially since I'm not sure the concept of non-anamorphic would even be used in blu-ray) that doesn't mean that the source element used for this disc wasn't non-anamorphic, does it? I mean, if this was ported...
Just curious, how do you know that they are anamorphic and not non-anamorphic?
Whenever I see a 16:9 image with bars on the sides and top and bottom within a 16:9 frame, it makes me first assume a piller boxed non-anamorphic presentation.
Oppo's a small company but they compare favorably to much more expensive options from the larger manufatcurer's. Even then they aren't cheap and may be more then some budgets. With a little research others can be found that may also provide satisfactory results for cheaper. But you can't go...
To the best of my knowledge, a blu-ray player isn't automatically better with SD content then a standard upconverting DVD player. And I think that the assumption it always is, is in error.
I remember when blu-ray players first came out and the discussion was based on which one to buy, the HD...
