Press Release Criterion Press Release: Blood Simple (1984) (4k UHD Combo)

This is apparently Criterion's second release of Blood Simple on BD. And Blood Simple is where Criterion lost me as a loyal sycophant. It's NOT Blood Simple, it's Blood Simple 2000. If you don't know the difference, I'm sorry but I'm not going to explain it for the 17th time. I have a DVD of...

    A Few Words About A few words about...™ Blade Runner 2049 -- in 4k UHD Blu-ray

This was the first time in at least 25 years where I watched a film in a theater and thought, "This will NOT sound better in my HT". Or even as good. BR2049 came in yesterdays' mail and I was correct.

I SAID be QUIET in the theater!

+1 Nothing of interest here. Spike Jonze, Ron Howard and Steven Speilberg each were attached to this project at different times and moved on. Eric Roth did the screenplay, from a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald (some dead Hollywood writer). David Fincher (who?) ended up directing...

Frustration over a family legal problem...

+1 Listen to Brett. I have had plenty of time to think about this because I'm going through something similar myself. My dear mother remarried after my father's death. The new husband had children of his own. There were numerous visits with mother and new husband where I was told...

Friday Night Lights season 3 (DirecTV 101)

Is there a plan to show it on NBC later? I don't know how they'd do that since the show was 55 minutes without commercials. There were a whole series of clumsy blackouts, so, maybe their plan is 90 minutes on NBC?

Jaws 30th Anniversary Edition in June

From nytimes.com "Frank Mundus, the hulking Long Island shark fisherman who was widely considered the inspiration for Captain Quint, the steely-eyed, grimly obsessed shark hunter in “Jaws,” died on Wednesday in Honolulu. He was 82 and lived on a small lemon-tree farm in Naalehu, on the...

Although I enjoyed the film, it's not going to be moving into my Coen Top 5 list. A personal great moment for me came after the theater was empty, AKA, the closing credits. The Fugs are singing CIA Man from their first album. That's always easy to remember, it's called "The Fug's First...

    True Blood season 1 (HBO)

I had HBO fired up just so I could view this. Having just rewatched all of Six Feet Under my high expectations are not being met at this point. I could also use a lot more Zydeco music. But, Sookie and Bill are smokin' together IMHO.

"TERMINATOR: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" Season 2 Thread

Goofs: In Texas it's pronounced "EL-gin" with a hard G, not "EL-jin". Also, Elgin and Corpus Christi are over 200 miles apart, not close even by Texas' lengthy standards. With these two errors in one sentence I thought perhaps someone was being tested, but no, it was just a screwup.

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Dragonwyck

I've always wanted to see Dragonwyck so this is good news. For years I've had it in my head that Lyndhurst, a wonderful mansion in Terrytown, was the filming location. I can't find anything to corraberate that, but the location of the story is certainly meant to be a Hudson River estate.
