No 4K release for Gone With The Wind’s 80th Anniversary?

Discs are relatively cheap but some folks have tighter budgets than others. Instead of letting them go on sale after a period at "full" price, price them low out of the gate and see how sales improve. We are all used to seeing MSRP. We will know when a title is selling at a "sale" price.

How much does it cost to properly scan and transfer Ultra Panavision 70/MGM Camera 65 Films?

Actually, yes. A little bit. Gate jitter, bob & weave in small amounts told me that physical film was being projected. I guess it is a nostalgia thing.

Pioneer Plasma F.O.G needs a new TV

LG is very hard to beat. I have a Panasonic VIERA TC-P55GT30 virtually side by side with my LG CX 65 and the difference is pretty obvious. The blacks on the LG are better than the Vierra and the bump from HD to 4K UHD is striking. The colours are amazing and it uses a lot less power then the...

    The Death of Stalin (2017)

Per the IMDB: "Writer and director Armando Iannucci insisted on not having the characters speak with Russian accents, for two reasons: he thought it would take audiences out of the movie, and he did not want the actors and actresses to worry about their accents when improvising. In a...

Press Release Criterion Press Release: Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) (Blu-ray)

Interesting that a disc from Criterion's old LaserDisc days (#136) would get a new Spine number (#1153). They have always tried to use the old number when updating to the new formats.

    UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Killer's Kiss -- in 4k UHD

Well, there is a new commentary track. Glenn Erickson says: "The smooth and authoritative audio commentary is contributed by Imogen Sara Smith. It’s a clean track that discusses the expected issues and concentrates on a visual analysis. It’s level-headed too, avoiding the deification of Kubrick...

Excalibur is due for an upgrade

I will put on my 4K wishlist a new scan and 4K UHD disc release of Excalibur. I think it would benefit from the HDR grade and improved resolution. A decent seller me thinks.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Death on the Nile (2022) -- in 4k UHD

My question is why, if shot on 65mm film, was it not presented in the 2.21:1 aspect ratio? The only thing I can think of is the the area commonly used inside the sprocket holes for mag stripping was exposed as image, resulting in a slightly wider frame.

Because the magnetic stripping had to be put somewhere so it was added to the sides at 2.5mm each.
