Because the history of the United States of America and our ideals and those of established overseas countries are different things. America fought a civil war over slavery -- the aftermath of that war shaped America irrevocably. Are you serious, asking why overseas countries didn't protest...
I disagree. There are plenty of protest groups that would jump at the chance to increase their visibility and therefore increase their own fundraising. Disney is a giant target and people are constantly firing shots at them in order to get onto the 5 o'clock news and bring attention to their pet...
I'm sorry, sir, but I had read in the past that you were upset by the aspect ratio and general look of the film in its last home video DVD release. It wouldn't be the first time I believed something I read on-line, and took it as truth, so I apologize. I can't wait to read your thoughts. I...
I don't believe the scene should be restored, because if Walt were alive today, he would remove the shots himself (Leonard Maltin, in his book The Disney Films, stated Walt removed the scenes in the 50's to be sensitive to racial issues, and the DVD states they can't explain why the cut version...
While I enjoyed the discussion, I'm still waiting to read Mr. Harris' thought on the results. He was a famous critic of the last restoration, I would love to hear his detailed thoughts on the new release.
What I loved about Dumbo was that - with the inclusion of the crows (who are clearly black American characters) - Walt was taking a very firm stand *against* racism. Like Dumbo, who is made an outcast due to his physical appearance, isn't it wonderful of Walt to have made Dumbo's best friends...
I don't understand. The DVD Beaver comparisons between the Blu-Ray and the old DVD version don't show one having any more information than the other, the Blu-Ray is just sharper. I thought we were supposed to see more of the image.
Believe it or not, cels were given away as promotional tools at Disneyland in the 50's. For free. Usually for things created for the Disneyland TV show, but I suppose its conceivable the same occurred for larger budget endeavours.
I'm very pleased Disney gave Grand Canyon a new lease on life with a 1080p presentation. And DTS HD to boot! Can't wait for the Sleeping Beauty reviews! Post them here when you find them!
