    Speaker wire gauge question

Thanks for all the input. I think I am going to go with the normal 14 gauge speaker wire. My brother in law said that is what he did with his system and it sounds great.

    Speaker wire gauge question

I didn't know you could use conductor wire for speakers. I didn't even look at that. I was looking specifically at speaker wire. So I can use 2 conductor wire, and get the same results as if I were to buy speaker wire? I have been to Lowe's and Home Depot and neither of them have any speaker...

    Speaker wire gauge question

Thanks for the input. I am having trouble finding any rolls of 12 gauge greater than 20 feet in my area for some reason. I need 2 separate wires to go roughly 30 feet. Would it be that big of a deal to use 14 gauge for that?

    Speaker wire gauge question

I was getting ready to run the wire for my speakers in my basement when reading in the manual that you are only supposed to use 16 gauge up to 20 feet and 12 gauge up to 30 feet. Is this just a recommendation? What is the difference performance wise? Any help would be appreciated.

    Is quiet rock worth it?

I just finished pricing out the quiet rock and it is considerably more expensive. Has anyone installed this in their basement or at home? I am just trying to figure out if I should just increase the thickness of normal drywall or not. Thanks for any input.

    Soundproofing basement help please

Thanks again for the input Robert. I will probably build the boxes for the speakers, then use quietrock to do the ceiling instead of normal sheet rock. I will probably also insulate in that room in between the quiet rock for an extra layer. Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

    Soundproofing basement help please

Thanks for the input Robert. I am going in wall because I like the cleanliness of them. I am not a fan of having speakers everywhere. I know the other speakers will sound better, but for my purposes these will suffice. I am used to not having any surround watching movies, so this will be a huge...

    Another newbie question, Onkyo reciever

Hello all, I am just starting to get into finishing my basement and I am trying to figure out surround sound. Just bought some great JBL in wall speakers(I liked them anyway). Now I need to find a receiver. I am leaning toward an Onkyo 605 or 705. Any thoughts on either of them? I have heard...

In-wall speaker help for a newbie please!!

Thank you for the input. I went and listened to some speakers just a bit ago, and ended up with JBL's. I wanted the Klipsch, but they were 360 a speaker. I got the JBL's for 360 for the pair. They sound great for what my purposes are.

In-wall speaker help for a newbie please!!

I am completely lost now. I was set on the Bose in-wall speakers, until I went and listened to them. They were awful. I don't want to go to extravagant, but I want something nice. I listened to the Klipsch (sp?) 3 way and those were nice, but didn't hear much difference between them and the...
