Personally I would just due without until you can get the sub you want. The only deviation from that would be if a great deal comes along used and you are pretty confident you can flip the intermediary sub for close to the same price you paid for it.
It would sound better, but not night and day (imo). A decent amp does not have to cost an arm and a leg. Acurus makes a 3 channel amp that could run your front stage and is 200wpc (into 8 ohms). You can pick it up on the used market for around $400-$450.
Correct. A mid-line AVR with preouts will offer you the latest decoding as well as HDMi inputs and all that. You could also step up to a true Pre/Pro - but those seem to start in the $1,500-$2,000 range to get the latest of everything. The amp will provide the power for your system and...
If your AVR is not rated for 4 ohms, it may go into thermal shutdown when running the LSi's. (There is a potential for damage to the AVR, but not much since that is what thermal protection is there to prevent - make sure it is well ventilated) The more likely thing is that in the middle of...
Personally I would recommend a nice used amp in the $500-$800 range and a decent new mid-grade AVR with preouts... There are a couple 5 channel, 200wpc amps on audiogon now in that range (Sherborn and outlaw I believe - no affiliation BTW) and they will work great with almost any speaker you...
Dual subs would only increase the bass by 3db. (when on opposite sides of the room like you are proposing) Just turn down the LFE channel by 3 db and you are in business. Will give you a little more headroom and smooth out the response curve. I have dual subs and would be hard pressed to go...
I would like an NAD HTR-2 remote. The remote for my NAD T163 has managed to come up missing. I am using a Harmony remote for now, but would like an original NAD remote in case I end up selling the T163 at some point in the future. So, anyone have an extra one laying around they would like to...
4 Polk Audio R50's (tower speakers) from Frys for $60 each. (cannot post links yet (until I get at least 10 posts, just go to frys.com and search for r50.) Pick up sub for the $250 you have left over (run with a phantom center for now) You are better off not going any lower on the sub and...
For all day comfort I have the sennheiser hd-590's and really like them. They sound great and while benefiting from a headphone amp - do not require it to sound great.
I have a 3k6 MkI.
Driving a 5.2 system. (5 channel Polk LSi home theater with 1 passive SVS 25-31cs+ and 1 powered SVS 25-31PC+)
I cannot recommend them enough. From what I understand the Mk3 golds were really something special. For now my Mk1 is more than enough though....

The Polk LSi series is really nice. (I would stay with an SVS or Epik subwoofer though) The sound is very laid back (to much so for some tastes) but they are excellent for music and movies. They do require decent amplification, but with your budget, that should not be a problem.... Michael
