I meant superior in the overall customer experience, not simply viewing a single movie. Renting DVDs by mail means hoping you get what's in your queue, hoping it gets to you unbroken and hoping the postal service doesn't lose it. It was superior to blockbuster 10 years ago because Netflix's...
MODs certainly are helping pay the bills. I read where George Feltenstein said Warner's Archive break-even point was around 70 DVDs. Yes 70. It' no wonder they keep them coming. And if I had to choose between physical DVDs and streaming - I'd choose streaming. It's a superior format to watch...
It looks nothing like her. I thought it was a blunder too, but after googling her and looking very closely at her features (especially her nose), it's likely her. I think the reason most of us are so skeptical is because her cheekbones are a dominant characteristic of hers and they've been done...
Me too, but they're probably saving that for October. Either way, the 100th anniversary celebration looks like it's getting off on the right foot with Mockingbird, All Quiet, Harvey and now Buck Privates!
I agree that we should deal with the reality of MOD. It's here to stay and in the overall scheme of things, we're better with it than not.
During the "Glory Days" of home video for Warner (2003 - 2008), they released about 600 catalog titles on pressed DVDs (about 100/year). Compare that to the...
It's been forever since Fox has released anything pre-1960 to the general public. Now word comes they're releasing Stars and Stripes Forever on December 13th. Hopefully this is a sign of this to come as they're sitting on a treasure trove of titles...
Kinda funny it's after the Christmas season, but Warner has announced all 17 Pepe Le Pew cartoons for release on December 27th. 14 are new to DVD! http://www.classicflix.com/looney-tunes-super-stars-pepe-shorts-a-1043.html
I don't know how disappointed they could have been. Both Volumes 1 and 2 are out of print commanding prices of over $100 at Amazon. Seems to me they could sell another couple thousand if they wanted to as prices don't go that high arbitrarily.
Of course we'd all rather have regular pressed DVDs, but the new reality of MODs & streaming is here to stay. Over all, I think streaming is great as it a much cheaper way for studios to distribute content. This, in turn, allows for studios to dig deeper in to their vaults.
Wee Willie Winkie was the only one that was later released in April of 2008. None of the four mentioned above came out as part of boxed sets. About 20 or so did, but Tobacco Road, The World Moves On, Four Men and a Prayer & Seas Beneath are still only available via the ford at fox set...
As we hoped they would with their Murnau, Borzage set (2008). Or Tobacco Road, The World Moves On, Four Men and a Prayer & Seas Beneath -- the lone titles exclusive to the Ford at Fox collection (2007). Don't hold your breath.
