I was careful and went slow and steady also, but the stickers had other ideas and ripped without provocation. The technology exists to create stickers that peel off cleanly and with minimal effort, so 'tis a pity that they went with the other kind.
Cut to 15 years later, with the 40th anniversary of All of Me upon us, it would seem to be yet another prime opportunity to put out an upgraded release.
I received my order today from The Atomic Movie Store. They had done a fantastic job of packing the discs in bubble wrap, prior to shipping, and everything looked absolutely pristine when I took them out of the box. Then I went to peel off the stickers, thinking they would peel off cleanly. Not...
It would be surprising for Criterion to go with the R-rated cut, especially if this edition is "director-approved." Unless they've changed their minds, the Wachowskis have always maintained the unrated version is their preferred cut.
That's surprising as it was just released last month.
Update: It appears to be the version with extra swag that's in limited supply, not the general release.
Great movie, but I will wait for the reviews to decide if it's worth an upgrade from the Olive Signature release. The bonus features look to be about the same.
Darren Aronofsky's Pi is available to order on the A24 website. 3.14K UHD on this particular title should be nirvana for lovers of film grain! Assuming they haven't scrubbed it clean...;)
Not sure if this is a pre-order or if it's now available.
An odd selection of titles. Uncut Gems in particular doesn't scream out IMAX to me, but that could just be because my opinion of that particular movie is that no screen could ever be small enough.
The notice I saw on Atomic said they were scheduled to receive stock of Aliens on the 15th. I ordered all three at the same time, and they won't ship until the full order is ready to ship. Ah well, I've survived this long, another week won't kill me. Mostly.
According to the Blu-ray box sets that WB released last year for their own centennial, all of those MGM titles are really Warner Bros titles (at least that's how WB seems to consider them), so I wouldn't hold my breath for them to do any big hurrah for MGM's 100th.
I'm looking at the following quote, which would seem to indicate that, if the elements had been available, he would have done it in 4K (emphasis added):
It doesn't sound like Jeunet is saying that he is against 4K in general, since there have been releases of some of his other films on the format. Rather he is saying he believes the benefit of doing a 4K upscale for this particular film, that was finished as a 2K, would be negligible.
I've never watched this movie, but films where absolutely everything went wrong during the production can make for the most interesting bonus features. Will wait to see what Shout has in store: If it includes some warts-and-all bonus features, I may be persuaded to pick up a copy.
EDIT: I...
You have to admire the chutzpah of anyone who would attempt a straight-up remake of Vertigo, or any Hitchcock classic for that matter. Even if they knock the remake out of the park and it surpasses the original in every conceivable way, the remake will be looked upon as cinematic blasphemy and...
DeepDiscount.com is still selling it for $139.95, if you want to save $9.05 over Amazon. My copy arrived within a couple days of ordering it from them.
Gay actors have been playing straight characters--both on and offscreen--forever, so I guess it's only fair if straight actors get to play gay roles from time to time.
The practice definitely did not end in the 1970s.
There are more recent examples, but anecdotally, I recently re-watched Al Pacino play Puerto Rican in 1993's Carlito's Way and found myself cringing whenever Pacino would be sharing a scene with actual Puerto Rican actors and his over-the-top...
There was a time in our recent past where Stone (in some darkening make-up) would definitely have been considered to pay Gladstone's role (see the controversy surrounding her casting in Cameron Crowe's Aloha).
The only apples-to-apples way to judge Best Acting prizes would be for each actor to...
