    Bush's War -- Frontline (PBS)

Or, perhaps no "for-profit" news organizations can afford to spend the time and money because they are not unlimitedly funded to do so like Frontline which gets the majority of its funding from .... could it be.... taxpayers. So, like most governemtly funded organizations, just spend away...

    Audio Advice

Here is an offering to start. You obviously will want to look at others to compare. This is a 7.1 system which may problematic with your opening on the left but it I think is the first system in the line that gives you TrueHD sound. I've seen these on the net for around $750. Onkyo HT-SP908 -...

    Audio Advice

I believe most are going to start with a request to clarify what your idea is of "without robbing the bank". Everyone has different budgets and ideas. If you could narrow it down? $500, $1000, $1500 ?

    7.1 Speaker Placement Dilemma

I have to 2nd Kevin's assessment on the 7.1. For the price of 2 more surrounds, I think it is well worth it. I had 5.1 for the past 5 years in my last home and just started my home theater room in the basement of my new home. I hooked everything up temporarily just to make sure I had the...

Is there a way to hear svs speakers?

I don't think that the Onkyo would have any problem with this setup. The Onkyo is rated at 90 watts per channel and the SBS-01 system shows that they handle 20w to 120w. Should work just fine. Here is a link to the SBS-01 system. If you have the money, you may want to take their optional add of...

    7.1 Speaker Placement Dilemma

That does look like a dilema. I've attached Dolby's quick, down and dirty guide to placement on a 7.1 setup for reference. The sides normally are 90 to 110 degrees from the sitting position. Too far back and you'll loose the effect of the rears. If you have the ability, the absolute best way...

Is there a way to hear svs speakers?

I am assuming that you are close enough to even consider getting to their location? I'd try it if you can. Contact their sales department. I had been in contact with their tech department just last week trying to work out proper sub type and placement for my room. They were very, very helpful...

    Looking for Speakers

I used to have these in my ceiling at my old house. They are Definitive Technologies bi-polar design and through in two different directions. If you are just trying to getting better sound distribution, these could be placed towards the center of the room and would throw in either direction so...

    In Wall vs On Wall?

How much are you wanting to spend and how much value due you put in the certification? I know that depending on who you talk to or read, there is a lot of varying positions on THX certification and what it means. I can tell you that if THX certification is like other certifications, chances are...

    In Wall vs On Wall?

I have to agree with John here. Unless budget is a concern or space, you definatley do not want to go the route of in-walls. Also, with the sub you have, I'd sink my money into the rest of the speakers and look at ones that do not have any built in subs as you seem to have that taken care of...

New Guy in need of 7.1 surround help

Speakers are so personal but if you are looking at some options and can find them to listen to in your area, Polk makes a system in your price range. By default it is a 5.1 but their website indicates that they sell add on satellites to make it a 7.1. Found them on Amoazon for $250 for the 5.1...

    Not happy with the Oppos

Can't comment on the Oppo, but if you are going the Toshiba route you may want to take a look at their HD-A20 if it is in your price range. Does 1080P instead of just 1080I and reviews have it a much better unit that resolved some issues with the A2.

Control light and sound in my home theater. Please advise

Not an expert on your situation but my wife does interior decorating and she had indicated that a "curtain" or "drapery" is not going to give you much sound protection. It will help you to control light because you can get curtains with "black out" lining that will cut off most all lighting...

Thanks for the help. To answer your questions: Projector - currently leaning toward the Sony VPL-VW50 or the Epson Power Light Home Cinema 1080P Screen - looking at something in the 100 to 110 range I am still looking at using my 5.1 to start with. Cost issues. I will be wiring for 7.1...

Starting New Room - Best Buy Consultation

OK. I am starting to plan out wiring for the room. I can find all kinds of threads that show equipment connections but very few that go into planning .... for example.... all of the feeds that you may want to run to the projector. Based upon some of you that have already completed rooms, can you...

Starting New Room - Best Buy Consultation

Kevin, Thanks for the input. The only reason I went with the low wall was just a concern (after reading some posts) over sound disruption in the room by having the small set back at the end of a full height wall. I haven't decided exactly on the seat locations back from the screen. I was...

I am about at the same point as far as planning my room. I actually have the room planned out and I am researching sound materials. I've looked at Quiet Solution which makes a sound panel that takes the place of your sheet rock they call Quiet Rock. It is supposed be about 8 to 10 times more...
