So would I need to set all speakers to Large for the SPL reading because I haven't, I've set all to small and 80hz x/o. But yes it goes from min volume oo, -71, -70, -69 etc, etc, to 0 then +1, +2, +3 etc, etc all the way to +18 for max volume. By the way, I just bought Avia II the new 2007...
My volume on my Marantz goes from -71 to +18, with -71 being is lowest setting and +18 being its highest. Actually "oo" is the lowest then -71, -70. -69 etc. 0 is actually 2/3rds of the entire volume range and not the half way point on mine. So I guess my halfway point would be -26.5 or -27...
With the volume of the reciever set to 0 I then began to take a reading on each channel with the DVD test tone and they all happen to be + or - around 0. Some were -1 some where +2, the sub was -10. I'm using Discwasher Digital Home Theater Calibration DVD. It doesn't tell me where the volume...
Thanks JohnRice, I'm not sure if I'm doing this right or not. I use my HT calibration DVD and I set the overall volume to "0" which gives me +18 of headroom on the volume dial. I also started off setting all my channels to 0 and it so happens that with everything set to 0 I get 85db out of the...
If I were to replace my digms I would sell them. How much would Studio 60v.1 in black ash be worth? They're still in excellent cosmetic and smoke free condition.
I guess I don't understand when you say absolute and relative in volume terms. I'm not sure what the range of volume I have on my Marantz. I usually set the volume anywhere from -14 to -9 when watching a moviem, "0" would be damn loud. When set the levels using my recievers test tone the output...
I'm looking at changing my front stage which consist of Paradigm Ref studio 60 v1 and LCR 470 v1. I bought them back in January of 1999 so I've had them for a while but I've been very pleased with them and I still am. I'm just getting board with them and would like to try something different...
Ok that makes sense. I always thought it was better to use the receivers test tones but using the test tones through the DVD actually makes more sense since thats where 99% of my listening material will be coming from anyways. So let me see if I have this correct. I would use my calibration DVD...
So do you mean -27 is the standard volume setting for DD and if it displays "Normalization +6" I should then adjust the overall volume up +6db to -21? If this is the case then what is the standard volume setting for DTS?
What I don't understand is what is the standard volume setting to go + or - from? My system is level calibrated at 80db on all channels but I have no idea where that should be set during a movie. I just set it to where I think sounds comfortable during a movie.
I don't remember seeing this on my Denon that I just replaced. On my Marantz SR8500, when I play certain movies and engage the DD surround, it displays a quick note that says "Normalization +4". Sometimes its -2 or +3 and even had one that was -27. Is this the center channel level that I...

That is what I did. I actually have both sets, my L and R surrounds and my two back surrounds installed in my 10ft ceiling (paradigm ref) and I love it. They are not pointing directly at the listening so they are semi diffused.
When in Matrix mode (EX or DTS matrix) the back channels come from the L and R surround channels so if you mounted them up front you would have surrounds coming from the front. I know I wouldn't want that. I believe Yamie's presence channels are taking the signal from the L and R mains.
I hear a difference between DD and DTS also but IMO its not a huge difference. Don't get me wrong, I will have TrueHD and DTS-MA eventually I'm just wondering if its superior compared to the current formats.
On paper the difference in lossless looks nifty but how about real world experience? Is it crazy good and makes EX and ES sound inferior? I've heard that theres a difference but not a huge difference soundwise between the two using 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, but where the difference is at is the capability...
Man I would hate to go a step down at least compared to my Denon I'm replacing. That Denon 3802 is hard to beat in my opinion but it just needed a bit more power and format updates. Accessories4less is actually going to have Fedex come pick up the dead channel unit Monday and send me another...
Well I have to say I'm sick to my stomach right now. I got the SR8500 and DV6500 connected and overall I immediately was able to hear and see a difference without even setting up the channels. I then start to setup the volume levels with my DB reader and noticed that the Front Left main is...
Its a older 2001 Sony DVD. I hate it because ANY little spec of dirt or smudge skips worse than a school girl on a playground. As far as a new display I'm already measuring out my custom entertainment center to see what I can fit in but it will still be a while before I do anything. I don't...
Ha,ha yeap just S-Video. I bought it in 2001 (its not even wide screen) The picture is fine actually its not anywhere detailed as HD but it doesn't bother me. My Sony DVD player that I'm replacing is older to, I think it was when DTS had only been out out in mass marketed products a few...
Yeah the 8500 doesn't have a HDMI input so I see what your saying. I thought the 7.1 inputs on the 8500 would work if the player had the decoders. What D/A spec does TrueHD and DTS-MA require?
