Thanks, unfortunately we are dealing with a basement ceiling here....Although...I do like your coat hanger idea....I could stick the coat hanger (or wire of some kind) through the hole and poke left or right to find out which direction the joist is going.....that may help with determing the spacing.

Since i cannot post links yet....go to google and then type on "projector screen distance" and you will find some good calculators for this. As far as speakers goes, the common theme for home theater systems seems to be speakers in the front surround on the side and two rears in the back...

Man, thanks for that tip, i am definitely going to go the DIY route now....and use this site as a reference tool when i get to work on that. Now my only last question to get answered.....what are your thoughts of the 4 tower speakers up front with the center channel? Is that going to be too...

Just a quick update, i am back on the Mitsubishi’s HD1000U Projector.....i tried to like the LCD review on that projector you suggested but i just dont want to sacrifice the "film" look you get from the DLP.....plus as mentioned i will upgrade to 1080p once the price comes down. :)
