I'm interested in some banana plugs for my rear speaker connections. I use Monster flat wire (16 gauge). I've picked up a few different plugs at Frys but they never seem big enough to fit my thicker 16 gauge wire. ?? I'm a newbie with plugs so can somebody please tell me the brand/type of plug...
I have DirecTV (and like it). I'm about to upgrade to HD. I have a chance to bundle services (phone, internet, satellite) into one package to save money and doing that means I switch to DISH. I'm open to that, but frankly, I don't think I'll save a whole lot of dough (with an HD package). I'm...
I'd appreciate some feedback about this. I know my Toshiba A2 HD-DVD player is region free for HD-DVD's but is it also region free for standard DVD's? I'd like to get some region 2 DVD's so I'm wondering if they will play in my A2. Thanks.
I have DirecTV but I'm not watching it though my receiver (which is not an HD model...yet). I watch it through my on air antenna, which is plugged right into the HDTV. From the HDTV, I run an optical cable into my receiver (a Dennon 1804) which gives me the 5.1 surround sound from the HD source...
Every time I watch Bionic Woman (in high def) there's about a half second delay in the audio so the voices don't quite sync up to the mouths of the actors, or the sound effects to action on screen. Has anyone else noticed this?!? I'm using an indoor antenna to receive my HD signal and I watch my...
I'm the same as John. I haven't experienced any dropouts unless I skip a chapter. For about 2-3 seconds the movie is playing without sound, until the audio kicks in. Not much of an annoyance for me, really.
Yep, I was wrong. I was going off the manual but then actually trying it with HD discs, it failed to work. I just read into this thread and I guess it's a disc issue, not the player. The DVD's need to have that function built in so our players can take advantage of it. It's frustrating sometimes.
Weird you mention this because I have a CRT HD widescreen (not a stand alone projector) and my A-2 does this same thing when previews come on before the movie. First time I've ever seen that at home (black bars on the sides too!). But when the movie starts it's stretches out wide and looks fine...
YES, it will resume play but for HD-DVD's you have to press the "resume" button near the scroll pad. This is even mentioned in the manual which I read yesterday (I just purchased this model myself). And yes, it does automatically resume playback for standard DVD's by just pressing play again...
Tony, I have the JVC deck and you know what? It hardly ever gets used. Now, granted, I only used it to play D-VHS tapes, which, let's face it, are still rare to find and are a dying format. So then there's HDTV programming. Sure, you could record it onto tape, but with HD-DVD's coming late...
I REALLY hope someone can help me with this one. It sounds simple and I feel stupid asking but I need help. I'm picking up a Sony DVD recorder/VCR combo (VX500)tonight and I'm at a quandry for the best possible way to connect it. Here's why. I'm using a 90's model RCA 27" TV with only one...
It was the center channel. Duh! I can't believe I overlooked that for awhile. I assumed when it was surround sound related that it was the rears, but lo and behold, it was that I criss-crossed my center channel inputs. All is well now in 6.1 surround sound land! Thanks.
Just got a new Denon 1804 and made the major change over of cables from my previous Denon 3200. I was even able to do a test tone and hear all five speakers (and sub) sound off. After playing around with it for awhile though I've encountered a repeating problem that's driving me nuts now...
How far is your viewing distance from the screen? I'd like to get the 57" Hitachi SWX but I may wish to settle for something smaller like the 51" or a 53" say. I usually sit in a chair that's 10'(slight angle) from my current Sony analog 41" RPTV. On the couch though (straight away) when I watch...
I'm trying to decide on a Hitachi 57" Hi-Def RPTV. One has a built in tuner (much more costly) and the other doesn't. I will be running the Sony DirecTV HDTV version receiver through it. Now what I originally thought was having the built in tuner though would negate having to purchase and hang a...
I want an Hitachi Rear projection Hi-def screen - 57". I'm looking at three models (all 57") and I have no idea how they differ! Does anyone know? What's the difference between the TW, SW, and the UW series??? I'm looking at the spec sheets, for instance, for the 57TWX20B and the 57SWX20B and...
Oh and one more thing, if the tuner is not really necessary why are they going to be mandatory for all screens coming out soon?? What benefit will it really provide then? Is it going to then benefit only those people who do not have cable or satellite and want to get HDTV from their basic...
Thanks for all your responses. I do have DirecTV and I intend to get their HDTV receiver and dish shortly after getting the screen. However, I thought that in order to get HDTV from the local stations (i.e. ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, WB, KCOP - I'm in LA, CA) I need an antenna but if the screen has a...
I'm about to embark on the exciting journey of choosing an HDTV screen. I've narrowed the field to a 55-57" size and either Hitachi or Sony, based on viewing experience and various reviews online. Definitely want a WIDE one too. Here's the thing though. I understand that the government voted to...
Hey Todd,
Have you listened to DTS on DVD's? I was curious what format you think sounds better in DTS, laserdisc or DVD. I'd be willing to bet the answer is laserdisc. Although DVD sounds great, being a laserdisc owner myself, I have personally preferred the Dolby DIgital 5.1 laserdisc version...
Yeah, I haven't heard anything about those titles, including Mulholland Falls. The way DVD is racking up dollars I think we can expect these and many others to be on the way, in the not too distant future.

I don't think the original Rollerball will be getting another release soon, although with the new Rollerball movie possibly getting the Special Edition treatment, I wouldn't doubt it if the original gets re-released in a Special Edition with the anamorphic transfer. May depend on how well the...
I thought Blow Up was released. (?) Are you sure about that one? Raging Bull and Fargo Special Editions are on the table and I believe they are to be released sometime next year (if not sooner). The other two, I don't know about.
I'm waitign for MGM to reissue Escape From New York in a Special...
I have both and they're fantastic. The transfers aren't top notch, but they're "drive in" discs so how can you exepct high video quality? The frumpy transfers are what gives them their charm. Personally I absolutely love them and you will too if you have a memory of drive-ins or just an...
I thought I remembered reading somewhere that MGM was going to be doing a Special Edition of Escape From NY and it was coming next year ('03). Can anyone confirm this?
I ask because I have the chance of buying the Special Edition laserdisc for super cheap, which includes Carpenter/Russel...
Yeah, perhaps that's the way to go Andrew. I guess I didn't even realize you could get splitters for optical cables. I have always used digital coax ones so I haven't been as knowledgable about optical. I just started using one for the CD jukebox, so I guess adding a splitter now will do it...
