Thanks. I have a brother-in-law that has a ps3 and the audio through optical connection seems to be good at least for the time being. I bought a HD DVD player from walmart when they were $98, and although I only use optical connection on it when I watch HD DVD disks the audio sounds better...

Does the PS3 decode the new Audio foramts internally now? Or is that in the works and waiting for firmware update? Thanks.

I have a Pioneer 514 & 815. Both sound great, especially on movies. Neither receiver has any noise whether it is on or not. If you have a low budget and want great sound for movies I would go with the pioneer.
