I has another look at Undercover Girl last night. It's a routine story but done pretty well. I feel it would have had more impact if a stronger female presence, someone like Allison Hayes, had been in the leading role. In her day, Pam Grier should have done a remake!
Wow! I don't like this film at all! I know I'm in a tiny minority but nevertheless . . . . . Perhaps I should re-watch the Blu-ray disc . . . . . if I haven't given it away.
Thanks for this review. I've been waiting for Black Tuesday forever and a day so I'm delighted it's included in this set. Many thanks Kino, many thanks.
I agree about Barry Newman. He had more than enough screen charisma to have become a big star. For some reason, it didn't happen. I'm very pleased Kino is releasing this disc.
Incidentally, I saw this film by mistake! I thought it was a Paul Newman movie I was going to see!
Good pictures! Well done! Re picture 2, Mr. Moses is a film seemingly missing in action. I don't think it's ever had a legitimate release on disc. Being a big fan of Robert Mitchum, I'd buy a Blu-ray disc immediately.
Thank you for this review of a film I admire as well as like. I'm puzzled by one thing. If there are "scratches, tears and dirt present on the transfer" then there is scope for improvement, so how can we be certain that " This release is by far the best the movie will ever look on home video?"
Good! Brand new master and a 4K release. I held off buying the original Blu-ray disc because just about everyone who did buy it said it was awful. I'll definitely buy this new disc.
Two days ago, a cousin once removed - i.e. the son of a cousin - wanted to see Gilda on a big screen, so we watched that together. He's now a Rita Hayworth fan!
Last night I watched Bonjour Tristesse, a film I like a lot and which I think is under valued. Although he was regarded as a monster...
Really? I'm not aware of a single 4K disc of films featuring Columbia stars such as Rita Hayworth, Kim Novak, Jack Lemmon, Judy Holiday, Glenn Ford, William Holden etc. etc.
Where I do agree is that you're like a broken record with the same complaint for the umpteenth time about Warners.
They were photographed by William Daniels so of course they looked good! Daniels, possibly more than any other cinematographer, had the knack of making actresses look great. Mind you, Elaine Stewart and Dianne Foster were very good-looking to begin with!
I know what I've read and which I take with a pinch of salt plus what David Lean said in interviews, at least one of which is included on a DVD. Going from memory, David Lean said one of the critics demanded an explanation of why he had made this ****. The conversation seems to have deteriorated...
Last night I watched Camille, the very famous Garbo movie about which I've always had reservations. I first saw this film shortly after I'd read in translation the source novel. At that time, the orthodox opinion of "respectable" critics and Garbo fans was that Robert Taylor was out of his...
David Lean explained in television interviews (plural) that it was the ill-mannered treatment he received at a critics circle meeting, and not the reviews, that made him ask himself if it was worth continuing to make movies. Pauline Kael's arrogance and bad manners were astonishing.
Welcome aboard. This is the forum for discussing "films and formats as well as equipment" so you're off to a good start. Not sure about gaming though . . . .
I've never seen this film but as I like the cast, I'll add this disc to my collection.
And yes, that cover art is superb. Unlike movie posters today, It gives you some idea of what the film's going to be like.
I was going to buy it anyway, but thank you for re-assuring me I was making a wise decision! In my opinion, no movie star had a more appropriate final film than John Wayne.
Yesterday I watched Spy Hunt, a lightweight movie but entertaining and with an interesting cast. I always like Marta Toren, a flexible actress. Kino's Blu-ray disc is good.
You've done well to find photos of Margaret Nolan where she's not stark naked! I've always been sorry she didn't work in low-key crime dramas. I think she'd have been formidable.
