To keep my Integra 7.4 or not

I see. Then by that admission, both will most likely sound great, so I guess the thing to do is get a good blu-ray and run the signal through that. Thanks for the help.

To keep my Integra 7.4 or not

Ok I think I am starting to understand this. I could pony up for a good blu-ray and have the blu-ray perform the decoding, or I could buy a better receiver with HDMI inputs. Is one better than the other? It would seem that the less the signal needs to be run through components the better it...

To keep my Integra 7.4 or not

Thanks Alon. So if I bought a good blu-ray player and keep my Integra and bought a power amp as a separate, what type of connection would I use to get the true lossless sound from the blu-ray to the speakers, optical? The video would have to be component which means I could only achieve 1080i...

To keep my Integra 7.4 or not

Thanks for the reply. See, this is where I am loss with the entire deal of running separates, and for that matter. True high def DVDs. I thought I needed hdmi, version 1.3 to get true HD sound. But you say I could run it through an anolog multichannel. is that correct? I am confused.

To keep my Integra 7.4 or not

Hey guys. I am about half done my dedicated 26'x14' home theater room. I am thinking ahead to the components and I have questions. I want to be able to listen to a Blu-ray movie with the true HD lossless sound. However, my intergra 7.4 receiver that I bought for $1,200 in '04 does not have...

wiring in a upc and power filter/ surge protector

Hey guys. I started in on the basement home theater and I have a few questions. My equipment is going to be in the space underneath the stairway. I have started running conduit and what not for the speakers and I am now starting the power supply runs. 1. How does battery backup and power...

    Egg cartons

Okay, this may sound crazy but I am wondering if it would help. My budget will not allow the expensive accoustic ceiling tiles. I was planning on 5/8" drwall on the ceiling.( HT room in the basement) I want to beef up the sound insulation from the basement to the room above. If I glue empty(of...

Official announcement for starting construction for my HT room!

Great looking setup. I have empty 25'x14.5' room that I will be starting soon. Couple questions. Is that bare concrete in the picture? If so did you seal it. If it is concrete, are you using pressure treated wood on the floor? What is involved with wiring for the butt kickers? Do you need a...

    laying out dedicated HT room

Thanks guys. I am interested in sound proofing, but only to a point. I took a step backwards the other day and thought about how I am watching movies now. In an open room with hard wood floors with the speakers in the wrong position and the dryer running in the back ground. Just having the...

    laying out dedicated HT room

Hey guys. I am slowly putting my plans together for a home theater room in the basement. Room is 25x14.5 My questions is about the space under my stairs. The way the HT room will be laid out is such. The stairs come down such that they will make a nice "closet" area underneath them for my...

    Opinions please

I will throw a curve ball in and tell you to at least look into Definitive technology speakers which have built in powered subs. I have 4 towers, one center and a powered rear and I love them. No messing around with sub placement with these babies. The big thing about speakers though is... what...

DirecTv installed an HD receiver today.. PROBLEMS!

Bottom line, Directv sucks. I was told as a new customer I could get Hd tv hookup for free. The guy gave me a bill for $450 when he got done. When my contract is up, that dish is going in the trash. Get them to move the Dish to the peak. You really have to be persistent with them.

    Plumbing question...

You can connect to the same drain pipe, however you need to vent the new sink. You either need a new vent to the exterior, or you can tie into the existing vent pipe, but you need to tie in above the highest fixture on the second floor. Even though this is PVC, save your self a ton of headaches...

    Doors and seating distance

Thanks for the help. I plan on buying the projector in about a year so I am hoping for 1080i. I am having a hard time with the idea of being 12 feet from a 106" screen. I guess I have adjusted to the smaller screen. I will have to take another trip to the local audio video showroom.

    Doors and seating distance

Hey guys, two questions for you. Killed some time in home depot last night looking at doors. All the interior doors were 1 3/8" I have read a solid thick door is better. What size are you all using. The 1 5/8" exterior doors? Also are fiberglass doors(the pre-hung doors) ok? Finally I know...

    Are my ceilings too low?

Well Jim, I hope not because my dimension is only 1" higher than yours and I am moving full steam ahead. There is the rule of thumb for not having any one dimension of the room divisible by another but beyond that it depends on how tall you are. That may sound silly but most people think of...

Benefits off adding an Amp to receiver??

So if my system is sounding great now, and I can't go any louder with out it being silly, then a separate amp will not make a differnce. Why do so many people have cabients full of separates then? Obviously I can see then desire to do so, 10 components stacked on top just looks kick ass, but in...

Benefits off adding an Amp to receiver??

I am currently planning to build a dedicated home theater room in my basement. As I layout the wiring diagram and floor plan I find myself thinking about futureability(you get the idea). I have an Integra DTR 7.4 receiver with def tech speakers right now. Is there an instant payoff in sound...

    Wiring and surge protectors

Hey guys. What is the norm for outlets on the front wall? I will have a projector screen, or a framed area with the special paint. Of course I will have a center speaker, and left and right front. My speakers are def techs which have built in powered subs. I was going to install three outlet...

Definitive Technology Speakers in new HT

ahhh, a huge lightbulb above my head was just let. I never even thought about the fact that I could change the direction by swapping speakers. Thanks man. My first guess would be that they should face out toward the wall, equal space on each side of course. Hmnnn more choices. Ok thanks a ton...

Definitive Technology Speakers in new HT

Nice, thanks. Speakers are all in wall, what made you choose that method. My def techs are piano finish black so I am going to try and incoporate that in my color scheme. I am thinking a deep cheery red for wood. In the first pic you posted there is box out in the upper right corner. Is that...

Definitive Technology Speakers in new HT

Great Thanks. So being that the speakers are Bipolar and each speaker has a powered sub is there any different sound treatment that takes place? I have read so much about speaker placement and how sensitive location is yet I don't see any guidelines when it comes to bipolar vs. direct mono...

Thanks for the reply. The more pics the better. Couple more questions. How do you know what you will need for sound treatment? Doesn't this need to be figured into the design. For example, on the side walls I was thinking of making a column or a couple square box outs(not sure on the name)...
