For me, Cameron has cheapened the aesthetic to a cookie cutter Netflix production. Sure, it's his prerogative. I’m glad we can debate that and try and rationalise the scoring. Certainly, back in the day it was tent pole popcorn but I'd like to think it's been elevated somewhat since then. OK it...
Saw the 4K last week as they are all being re-run in the UK. Following the diamond pipeline is quite well paced but you really have to work hard to find other things to enjoy... its quite a leap from Majesty's, only 2 years prior.
The picture looked very good, but I do suspect some patches of...
Exactly.
And those that are new to this thread...a few of us went over the 4K's last year, page 31 onwards

Exactly.
And all these releases have been superseded anyway with a very nice 4K (minus the fade!) that has spot on framing, minimal to no DNR or EE.
The film looks great IMO, take the Aston v Ferrari scene...still pops as it did in the cinema in '95.
How anyone can criticise it after the Kodak...
Haha. he was already getting 16 mill...."it's not cricket" though
He’s admitted some these questions are a bit silly. That’s a shame.
Some amusing bits... incidents with guns, flying out of the holster into the dock and shooting himself in the foot with a blank
Muffy...‘I don’t know...
I had heard this elsewhere.
I would have brought TND 2cd in a heartbeat like the others. They are busy wrapping up the new film but quite how much they need to be involved I don't know...its more a matter for La La, Neil and David I would presume.
my posts between 31-34 will tell you all you need to know ;)

You will have a hard time knowing if you're watching the HD or 4k with a lot of these.
Do these Amazon ones have DTS-MA?
I found the opposite with those titles on iTunes lol. TND had the magenta removed and looked how it should have plus a noticeable uptick in detail - the safe crack scene is a good one to check. The text on the phone much clearer.
Daylights again had a colour...
I shan’t be buying them for the reason of supporting future releases.
I couldn’t give two hoots about the packaging and spare slots but I do buy on value added material and improved transfers.
I can understand some people factor in the packaging when they are buying physical though...
I A/B'd them all with the blu-rays earlier this year, my comments are in this thread. I suspected then I was looking at upscales for some of the titles and this is further comments that reflect the same.
Who’s amped for the Craig collection!?
I would say at face value it looks disappointing. They look a slight bump up from the 4K iTunes due to having DTS-MA and Dolby Vision (could they not have been DTS-X though?) but the overall content is a Blu-ray port.
I noticed one packaging shot having...
Looking at the remaining 4K streams - Casino Royale, Quantum, Skyfall and Spectre, for all intents and purposes there is minimal difference between them and the blu rays because the blu's are very, very good in the first place. So I guess this is to be expected and I would think it's easier...
Well these being SDR, i'm also viewing on an SDR and for the best part there is nothing to really say about the colours, they are generally in the ball park of the BD's.
They have corrected some of the Lowry changes, such as the magenta in TND, the boosted red and greens partly taken back in...
Goldeneye - We are back to how it should have looked on BD in the first place. Details are there because they have not been blown away with DNR. Edge enhancement gone. The colour grade and framing are much the same, the later very slightly shifted down to the bottom right corner. Because the...
But then you could say the same for DVD’s.
I don’t think its relevant. I’ve kept all my releases right the way back to VHS. I never brought into laserdisc but I like going back over and learning about the differences, same as the censorship history. All in all I’m spending an unhealthy amount...
"dirty, unfinished look" :emoji_grimacing:
IMDB has the negative listed as Kodak. Every other film prior to that used Eastman. Could be a major factor, and in a way, odd to have made a switch. Guess the Kodak rep gave them a deal they couldn't refuse!
ah that's true, and probably how it became lore for these.
MGM had the HD masters so there wasn't a need to rescan for the sake of a 128 lines I guess.
Generally there are no huge colour variations to the BD's here. Golden Gun and Daylights are the only ones that are really noticeable though. I'm being to wonder how worthwhile it is even analysing too much of the colour and picture unless it’s the disk versions. I'm wondering if the different...
Continued...I can also add that Octopussy, Daylights, Licence, Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies also retain their original UA card after the MGM ones.
LALD - my feeling is its the Lowry 4k scan, but before the degrain > regrain stage so i'd take this over the BD.
Golden Gun - New transfer...
I can see extra fine details clearly on Diamonds, Golden Gun, Goldeneye but have yet to see anything more in the picture on Spy, Moonraker and For Your Eyes Only. I'am spot checking and doing some A/B comparison but if you can point me to where this 4k goodness is i'll look further.
Thats probably the issue! up until the production of Casino Royale only 4 bond films had been made and 2 of those had instrumental main titles. Doing Casino Royale probably completely blacklisted her. Luckily she did though....the best thing about the film!
Absolutely. I realise i'm talking about "pixel peeping" but thats because I'm trying to access what is new work and what isn't.
Everyones running different gear and are in different locations, so i'm wondering.
In the case of Netflix I was assuming the 2k versions were ditched and they are now using new transfers such as the uncropped AVTAK.
In the case of Russia, OHMSS etc, to clarify - they are the Lowry transfers but with the latest logo. it's as straight forward as that ;)
Yes.
Isn't that they are the new 4k scans (as per the AVTAK screen shot) with the new logo attached and the existing 4k scans now with the new logo and in their true resolution? I will go through the Moore's next but I think that's what I'm seeing.
Search "goldeneye 4k" on youtube. there's the...
Had a run though of the logos last night. The versions I have ALL start with the new MGM apart from The World Is Not Enough. That retains its 75th Anniversary one (they are happy to blow their trumpet and keep the special ones but ditch the standard or original ones! lol) and Casino Royale...
