    The Island (2005)

I unfortunately finally saw this film a couple of months, by way of picking it up new for very cheap. And well...let me just say I was not impressed. The first twenty minutes were quite good, if very uninspired. But the film veers off into...well, I don't know what the hell happened, but it...

Well, to be fair it's only $4 million below its budget. Not exactly a huge amount. ;)

Wow, I didn't expect that one at all. No, not one bit. :rolleyes

Such is the nature of the film industry. One film's failure (or in this case development) is offset by another films success, etc. etc. :)

Never heard of the concept of "lurking", huh? ;)

The cost for those failed attempts as been absorbed by films like Harry Potter, Matrix, Perfect Storm, Batman Begins, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, etc. which have been profitable for the studio over the last decade or so. And the bulk of the development cost came from back in 1996-7 when...

I think Daniel Craig definitely has the "tough" thing down pat. And I think he looks damn good in a tuxedo too. I have high hopes for this film personally because I'm a huge Bond fan and this looks like the best thing to happen to Bond since Timothy Dalton, who is as of right now still the best...

Problems with ordering Superman Returns? - Now over!

Didn't know Click was shot digitally. Neat. I was referring to live-action digital films. I should have made that clear. My bad. :)

No, they don't. Sorry that you disagree, but you're simply wrong. The cost of the development of those failed attempts at DIFFERENT films were absorbed long along by other hit films that WB has produced throughout the last decade. That's the nature of developing a franchise like Superman...

And since when was anything in Entertainment Weekly worth a damn?

A 20% drop in week 17 is hardly "normal." And yes, it's victory against all of the naysayers who went on and on about how the film would never cross $200 million. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. :P

    Superman Returns (2006)

I think both The Dark Knight and Superman Returns 2 will cross $250 million domestic quite easily. :)

    Superman Returns (2006)

This was posted by David in the Box Office thread and since it's off-topic in that thread, I thought I'd reply to it over here. :) Superman has to find out how Lois feels and if she still loves him. It's that simple. I don't think Superman has any preconceptions of how he hurt Lois by just...

Cost is irrelevant unless your the head of the studio. Simple fact: Superman Returns made more than Batman Begins. It doesn't matter which cost more, it matters how many butts were in the seats and Superman wins that battle. :)

Reservoir Dogs 15th Anniversary Edition from Lionsgate on 10/24

I was *this* close to buying it this morning at Wally World for $12.64, but decided not to. And walked out with Justice League: Unlimited and Slither. Perhaps this weekend I'll pick it up. The Packaging is mighty enticing!

Will Superman Returns be the first film that was shot digitally released on HD-DVD? Just curious. Either way it ought to be breathtaking in HD. :)

Best LOOKING 2.35:1 and Wider Aspect Ratio DVDs Ever???

I think Minority Report has a quite beautiful 2:39:1 transfer. And Revenge of the Sith is flawless.

Singer was the reason a Superman movie finally got made, was well received by audiences and critics, and had as good legs as it did. And he'll be back for the next film too, fortunately. If he wants to make another film in between, WB will wait. Just like they waited for Nolan on The Prestige...

    Slither?

Saw it in theaters and loved it and picked it up today. GREAT disc! The movie's even funnier than I remember and the extras are as funny as the movie if not better. The "Who is Bill Pardy" short had me rolling. The transfer and sound are top-notch. The 5.1 track is pretty active. Commentary's...

I completely agree. I never alluded to that. The sequel was coming whether the film made $185 million or $200 million. But the fact that it did make $200 million is excellent.

It's pretty much the same thing last year with Kong. Many were predicting $400+ million and using something like Titanic as a comparison, which is silly to begin with. No way was the film ever going to live up to that kind of expectation. The same thing goes with Superman Returns. Many were...

    2006 at the Box Office

Nope, $204 million is the cost of the film Singer made. The previous attempts at a Superman film do not count against the film that Singer made because...they weren't the film that Singer made and nothing from any of those films are up there on screen. They were entirely different films being...

Superman's made more than Batman Begins. Superman's merchandising was stronger. Superman's legs were stronger. All things considered, the film's been a more than solid success for WB, who have stated such recently. Alan Horn went on record saying that film was going to be pretty profitable for...

    Superman Returns (2006)

HEY! It might be able to add another $1 million to its total. It'll end up somewhere around $200.5-$201 million by the end of its run. This films legs have been extraordinary! :emoji_thumbsup:
