There is no introduction by Carla Laemmle on either the Legacy Collection or the 75th Anniversary Edition. Looking at reviews of the original DVD there was not one there either.
This was the first new release movie that I remember being released only on DVD way back in February of 2010. Since then there have been numerous including Bel Ami recently. I'll never understand why a new release would not get a blu-ray edition. Sony seems to be the worst offender in this...
Even though I like the idea of a darker ending, I found the Director's Cut ending to be a completely unsatisfying conclusion to the film. I don't think that Frank Oz's conclusion that the test audience hated the ending because is necessarily correct, at least for me I just felt that the ending...
It looks great, but I have one minor nitpick. There's something odd about the disc. When you hit play, it starts up right on the Universal Logo. There's no fade in, like the first two or three seconds at the beginning are missing. And all of the chapter stops come about a second and a half...
A compilation of clips is exactly what it is (with a few extra bits inside a theater featuring Donald Pleasance and Nancy Allen thrown in for good measure). People like to refer to it as a Documentary which it is not. I'm glad to own it for nostalgia's sake but you may not enjoy it as much.
I thought I had heard when the DVD came out that a 2.35:1 image had been used and just cropped to 2.55:1. Anyway there is only a small difference in framing between the two discs.

I bought all of the imports from a seller on amazon.co.uk who was selling them for 9.99 GBP. Some of them are still available and the others may come back into stock eventually. I'm mostly happy with them but Bullets has more print marks than I expected to see and for some reason Mighty...
Of the UE's, Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only did not include the original soundtracks. I think they were dropped in favor of the new Roger Moore commentaries. Must have been a space issue. The blu-rays all had the original tracks except Thunderball may have been a...
I voted Yes (YES YES YES). But I have no interest whatsoever in the two Steve Martin films being included. I'm betting we'll see this next year since it's an "Anniversary" (It did come out in Germany, Finland and Sweden, December of 1963).
The replacement seems to be film based, It definitely has gate weave and seems authentic. I cranked up the brightness to check the black level and it matches.
My orders for Rushmore, Belle De Jour, The Lady Vanishes and Design for Living are all scheduled to ship at $19.99 a piece. I'm just disappointed that I was pressed for time this morning and didn't get around to ordering Branded To Kill and Tokyo Drifter as well.
