I played a sweep tone from the AVIA DVD for the sub from 100hz down to 20hz.....basically sit in your listening position and watch the SPL meter....it will jump around a little as I dont think any one room or position will be 100% flat, but overall the new sub position is only a few DB up or...
Just an update on my sub positioning. Initally position 1 sounded best, but I think that was due to the big bass boost I was getting and having a relatively cheap Sony sub :) I have since upgraded to an SVS PB12-NSD and found that although it was loud in position 1 it didnt go that...
I have the RadioShack analog SPL Meter and have been calibrating my speakers with C - SLOW and using Avia's WideBand Pink Noise. Just to confirm a few things: When reading the meter for 85db it should be set to 80db and reading 5+db? or better to set 90db and read down? Best to hold the...
THanks for the replies, I've been playing with Avia and SPL meter with the LFE channel 100hz down sweep tone....I've noticed the crossover works well but get a big peak from about 44hz-55hz then a pretty steady reduction down which I assume is normal....are bass peaks like this a common problem...
Just got my SVS PB12-NSD and it's HUGE :) I don't listen at reference levels, thus find i am setting my subwoofer on my receiver higher then the speakers which seems the normal. Currently I have it set at about 6-7db higher....how hot do most ppl have their subwoofer above their speakers? :)...
I have a Pioneer 912k AV Receiver which has been doing a fairly decent job...been looking a getting a new AV receiver to replace it, possibly a Denon. However just looking at current specs of AV receiver today and the arrival of Blueray/HDDVD....do the amps need to support DTS-HD and Dolby-HD...
Just wondering if used purely for HT movies, will it make a big difference upgrading from bookshelfs to floorstanders? Or would I be better off keeping the bookshelfs and upgrading my centre speaker first? Thanks :)
Sorry what I meant was in the 5.1 mix of dvd soundtracks and effects...how much is done by the centre speaker and how much is done by the fronts for special effects and explosions etc not counting the sub?
Thanks for the replies, I will be getting all matching speakers (looking at the Monitor Audio Silver range) but can only upgrade one speaker at the momment. EG centre or fronts Also how are special effect explosions handles in DVDs in regards to the centre and front speakers? I think this is...
I think I am most unhappy with my bookshelf fronts...so leaning towards some new floormounts first so far :) I guess it's best to have a good overall sound with all average speakers then one good one and one really crap one... How are special effect explosions handles in DVDs in regards...
Ok I am currently in the process of upgrading my HT speakers but one bit at a time. I am contemplating which speaker to upgrade that will make the most difference in HT :) I could replace the following: - Some cheap bookshelves as my fronts which I believe sound pretty bad overall...
I am planning to install some wall plates on a new wall for my home theatre system. They would include: one RCA for subwoofer 2 speaker connections tv aerial I have just found a wall plate that can fit all these connection in one, I was just wondering if there will be any sort of...
Tested subwoofer placement just now. Results: Position 1 best/loudest sounding followed by position 2, then 3 and 4 both seemed equally crap  Another alternate which would be in the middle for loudness/quality would be in the middle along the side walls between say 1 and 4 or 2 and 3...
Also just another quick question. Is there a formula to work out how far apart my front speakers should be if I am about 10 feet from them? This is for HT only, thanks
Thanks for the replies, will be trying this weekend to test and let you know how it goes :) The bottome left is a little corner to the front door and the bottom right is a hallway opening into the rest of the house.
I know this is another question about subwoofer placement, and I will be doing the test of putting the subwoofer in my listening positioning and moving around the room, but would still like some opinions and where you THINK it would best perform (incase my judgement is abit off) :) Below is...
Good to hear :) As my setup will be 5.1 and seating against rear wall....would the dipole/bipoles be better in the corners against the rear wall facing forward or directly next to seating on the side walls in the corner?
I only watch movies on my HT system, no surround music etc. So have been thinkin dipole/bipole would suit me well, except I just want to check the positioning. My seating position is right up against the rear wall, also the surrounds would on the side walls right up against the rear wall...
