Moved recently and my receiver broke! Would be super excited to make the Denon the centerpiece of my new home theater. How I long to hear the sweet sweet sound of explosions again. Please & thank you ☺️
My old Onkyo started going on the fritz and, since moving to a new house, I haven't had the motivation to create a new theater space. Just hearing about this new receiver has inspired new ideas and exciting possibilities. My wife however requires more concrete evidence. PLEEEEEEASSSSSEEEE can I win?
Thanks for the responses.
It sounds like I'm trying to describe the "soap opera effect" based on Worth's explanation as it's seen on both Blu-Ray and broadcast images. I'll see if the 120 hz mode is available on plasmas so that I can determine if I like it or not. Honestly, I get a little...
Hey everyone! Looking for help in regards to my image quality. Walking through the stores I see this "real as life" image popping off the screen and thought I wasn't seeing that at home because I had a 720P monitor. I finally got my 1080P Plasma, but the image is still the same as it was...
David: Thanks for the info! Aaron: Thanks for the suggestions! I greatly appreciate the assistance. With luck I'll be listening to lovely lossless in no time!
Hi David. After seeing Onkyo's statement, I took a look at the 606 which seems great(4 HDMI inputs!), although a little more expensive. Always one looking for a deal, my concern over the previous models was the whole "popping" issue that I read was destroying some user's speakers. Was this...
Thanks Aaron! I was looking at the Onkyo 506 and emailed their customer service asking about its HDMI v1.3 pass through. They said that it is video only. Reviewing their website, the description now details that "a separate audio connection is necessary." Since I would like to hook up...
Hey everyone! After having an appropriate period of mourning over my HD-DVD player :frowning: , I've decided to purchase the new Sony 550 blu-ray coming out this fall. Since it decodes all of the new codecs, as does my A35, I don't need a fancy receiver to perform the function, but I do need one...
Am I missing something with this deal? I go to the link and all I've seen is a slingbox and a PS3 remote for today. There's the standard Blu-ray blowout and bundle deals on the main page, but I haven't seen any real items that scream "High-Def Week." They've taken all of the HD-DVD sales out and...
Thanks Royce! Just so I'm clear - The 605 won't, but the 705 will matrix DD+ and TrueHD to my 6th & 7th speakers when my HD player is connected via HDMI? I appreciate your help.
My knowledge of computer software and their capabilities is limited to what my brother tells me to buy. Is the 40 gig PS3 the same as the 80/60? I know that it has less USB ports, but performance wise? Specifically, is the blu-ray player the same? I hear everyone shouting their praise, and...
Hey all! My question is whether or not any of the new receivers will matrix the rear surrounds when only receiving a 5.1 signal? It was mentioned in another thread in a different section that they didn't. I have a 7.1 set up in my house right now, but my rears are running through a second...
No it is not unrealistic. Nor is it not unrealistic for you to expect them to update your queue in a timely fashion when using the in-store return option  But as I've issued many a public tirade on this subject I will save everyone and simply say that Netflix is the better way to go...
Alonso, It was standard bright white screen material with a 1.0 gain. Doing a quick check on EBay, it looks like there is a lot of material. I got mine a few years ago, and its not the same store, but the price is right.
Somewhat off topic, but are there any, great eye popping 3-D like jaw dropping BD films that aren't animated ones? Not a big fan of these, but want a reason to jump on board other than Casino Royale (the wife's reasoning, not mine).
I'll save everyone by not getting out my soapbox and beginning my Blockbuster sucks tirade, but Blockbuster does not have their act together. They have very few HD discs in inventory. I'm in Houston, a mega-metropolis, and have had many issues with shipping times as well. Also, I've been told...
Alonso, My theater is carpeted and does just fine. It helps to absorb the sound. Some have suggested that wood floors should be covered with a rug so I think you'll be okay. I have never had a good experience with Fry's. When I first started my theater project I went to view some equipment...
Well I'm the first to admit when I'm wrong and apparently I'm wrong. I was unaware that the Toshibas could send out 7.1 through HDMI. Is this just on second generation players or first ones as well? Any ideas on analog? It's good to hear that AVRs are coming out soon that will decode...
Karim: I'm by no means an expert, and don't know anything about your particular receiver, but if it is 5.1 capable, then yes...you should be able to get lossless sound. Depending on your player, you may have to download a firmware update. For example if you have a Toshiba HD-A1 you would need...
Everyone seems to be all excited over this 7.1 track, but did no one read post #15? There are no HD DVD players with 7.1 ability. He's right, and there won't be any for the foreseeable future. Is this audio track only going to be available on the BD side? And why make a TotalHD disc out of...
I have a 7.1 setup using a Kenwood 6.1 receiver and an old Yamaha receiver powering my rears. I've been struggling with John's issue of how best to use my current speakers with the Toshiba's abilities and have yet to discover a satisfactory answer. To get TrueHD I have settled for simply using...
My only issue is with the cover art for the Universal discs. I just don't need that much silver. I guess it adds a futuristic edge(?), but I'd rather have the full image like Warners.
My local BB had "displayed" their HD-DVDs on a rolling cart that they bounced all over the store. Imagine my surprise when I asked where they were located this week and found a wall of HD-DVDs. Well...half a wall because Blu-Ray was taking up the other side. Regardless, it was nice to see them...
My main question is how can we split out TrueHD into 7.1? I see Warner Brothers advertise 7.1 sound everytime I put in one of their discs, how or when can we get it? I know...patience, upgrades will come. Great, but right now my two rear speakers are just sitting there gathering dust. If I...
Okay I found it...and couldn't believe it! Sure you have to throw in 100 miles but with my Continental Chase card I'll earn that back faster then it takes an HD-DVD to load! The only caveat is that it takes 4 to 6 weeks to deliver. I don't know if I can go that long. Once you sip the fine nectar...
