I'm with you. I replace all the "eco" cases with ones I purchase separately in bulk. The "eco" cases? They go in the trash.
I plan on doing the exact same thing now that I have accumulated enough to make a bulk order worth my while.
My thoughts exactly.
I'm quite sure it would have been in addition to the DD track since the posters there seem to understand that situation quite well, and it would have been a close call as to whether or not it would fit. But either way, a 16/48 TrueHD track would have fit easily.
Over on another forum someone looked at the size of the audio tracks on the single releases, and based on that rough estimate a 24/48 TrueHD track should have just fit. A 16/48 track would have fit easily. I have this set and it is othewise excellent but that really is a glaring omission.
You shouldn't find any since he always uses PNGs. I'm glad to hear that Buena Vista finally rectified what is arguably the biggest smudge on their record.
I finally got a chance to watch my corrected UK disc (bravo to Momentum for offering exchanges to foreign customers!) and I realized that I had forgotten what a great film this is; it's worth every penny. The disc itself left me with no complaints, either. The picture was pleasantly film-like...
Alien
Aliens
The Abyss
There are countless movies that I want on Blu, but those three would round out my entire top ten list of favourite films on HD optical disc.
I agree wholeheartedly with Paul_Scott; I consider reference quality to be as close to the original source as the format will allow, whether demo material or not. I also find that at this stage of the format's life, most new DI-based films from the major studios come out looking that way. It's...
That is it's own separate edition with an MSRP of 49.99. The packaging on it looked rather neat at Best Buy with it's translucent plastic slipcover and digipak-ish case.
Apparently there were budget limitations that prevented this edition from having the stuff from previous versions. Many of the docs and featurettes are available to download via BD-Live for separate viewing.
That was part of what gave the movie lasting appeal to me; I was wracking my brains for a couple of days trying to figure out how everything fit together. Even now I just have a general idea of it, and just sort of trust that the movie is following its own internal logic. Oddly enough I turned...
I finally got the chance to give the Skynet Edition a spin yesterday, and color me impressed. To my eyes this is the best the film has ever looked and sounded on home video; the colors look a lot better and the dirt and scratch removal looks like it went well. Even when staring at images...
The Metropolis thread may have some info of interest to you: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...ay-2009-a.html Unfortunately, there is no easy way of getting odd framerates on Blu-ray, as the standard only allows for 24p, 50i and 60i. Even if the players could be updated to handle it...
So DVDActive put up the back cover and it apparently has DTS-HD Master Audio instead of TrueHD. Good news for those of us tired of switching to the better audio track after the movie has started.
I picked this up on release day and thought it was a good if somewhat shallow revenge flick, which I occasionally find myself in the mood for. I do feel a little guilty for enjoying the scene with the nails so much. The picture looked quite good to me and the gunshots were satisfyingly...
I think I will buy this disc when my player comes back from the shop.
After looking at the PNG screen grabs on AVS (which I know is by no means a definitive comparison), I'm not so convinced that DNR was applied. I certainly see differences, but the lack of "grain" when compared to the other...
Agreed. I was responding to you saying that "If there had been no 35mm footage, it should have looked better no?" My point was that scaling, in one form or another, would have been necessary even without the 35mm footage.
Yep. To rub salt in the wound, HDD never took it down from their release listings, so it's been staring at me since last week every time I go to that site.
I don't understand why the entity that owns the rights to it would stop it from being released. Isn't that the whole point of owning the...
So the 'scope ratio footage from the movie was actually anamorphic 1080p, higher resolution than the letterboxed video on the Blu-ray. So scaling would have been necessary either way. In any case, the Blu-ray looks fabulous.
Just to fill in some of these: the Optimum BD is coded for both Regions A and B and does indeed use the same transfer. The Geneon disc uses AVC while all European versions use VC-1 at HD DVD-level bitrates.
Thanks again for sharing this stuff with us; it really is appreciated! I'm very...
Yes, but just because a movie uses such a high bitrate on a particular release doesn't mean that it needs it. A quality, hand-tuned encode at a lower bitrate can even come out looking better than a high-bitrate automated one. The people at Geneon probably used all that space and bandwidth...
Hmm. I thought Dead Calm was quite good, but I don't think I need to own it. I haven't seen The New World, but none of the others interest me. This is a rather odd batch from Warner.
Hey, I own a PS3 and I was on Ritalin when I was 16, but... ah nevermind. ;)
I finally got around to finishing the documentary last night, and I thought it was excellent. Very well put-together. I'm sure it isn't easy to make a doc that's longer than the film itself and keep it compelling the whole way through, but that's exactly what we have here. I'm very glad I picked...
I'll echo Ron's sentiments on this title. The film itself is really compelling, and it's a breath of fresh air to see filmmakers take a chance and make something different. I remember this being among the first five Blu-rays I ever bought, and that it was the first one to make my mother say...
Can you say "bought"? I have the DVD in my laptop drive as I type this; sometimes I just boot it up in the background to hear the music play. I was practically raised on Godzilla movies (and Gamera, too). I'll gladly pick this up to have the best available (possible?) presentation of the film.
