Independence Day ...now there's a title that hasn't had enough releases on DVD. Although I must admit that Star Wars and Alien could convince me to add a Blu-ray player when they are under $200. I enjoy reading The Digital Bits and I respect Bill Hunt's point-of-view but c'mon Bill, HD DVD...
Johannes... terrific news. What style case are they using in Germany? Are the covers the same as pictured on Amazon? Are you aware of other releases scheduled in Germany? If so, can you list them in the import thread I started so that there is a single place to exchange information on these...
Michael, I checked and Equinoxe Films distributed the film in Canada on DVD. If Stephen is correct that Warner distributes for Equinoxe, then it should be on HD DVD to import . No?
Oh, then that is actually terrific news for those of us that thought it was brilliant filmmaking. I actually forgot that it was not a Fox production. So chances are it will be available as an import.
To get back on track here is some new release news courtesy of DVDTimes and Optimum in the U.K: Optimum Home Entertainment have announced their first two UK HD DVD releases. Set to arrive on 11th December 2006 priced at £19.99 each are Mathieu Kassovitz’s La Haine and Roman Polanski's The...
Enrico, I believe Passion of the Christ is a 20th Century Fox title which means Blu-ray, however, be patient. If you scour the various websites and read industry articles and trends I think you can be safe in assuming that Fox titles will be coming to the HD DVD format eventually. In the...
It's really not going to be an issue because it would be suicide for either format. Any move that would hurt either format's acceptance would be foolish. I am also quite confident at this point that we will hear of defections from the Blu-ray camp early next year. I wouldn't be surprised if...
Do you need a region free player to play a region free disc? I owned a number of region free discs that played fine on my Pioneer DVD Player. I believe it will only be an issue when the discs themselves are regionally coded. Am I correct? Otherwise it would render all the current HD DVD and...
Well Robert, I totally agree with him in this instance but lets be honest, he isn't really dealing with numbers here is he?
- Dick Parsons, the CEO of Time Warner Inc.
Well, this is terrific news indeed! Someone over at AVS was kind enough to supply this info. There are additional Blu-ray exclusive titles coming to European markets that we can import. Please use this thread to inform other HD DVD owners of Blu-ray exclusives now available on our favorite...
Originally I started the thread to show off the Studio Canal cover art, however I threw in the Weinstein covers since they had just been released. I was fully aware that they are available in the U.S. I wanted to change the title of the thread so that it could serve as a place to exchange...
For me its all about superior image, sound, reliability, upconversion, title selection and the much lower cost to get me there. Currently that is HD DVD and I believe it will continue to be well into the future.
Chris, so far, the holidays are looking bright for HD DVD. The Super Walmart near me cleared out most of their HD DVD titles except for a rather large stack of "Tomb Raider" and one copy of "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" sitting unclaimed. I helped the cause by buying the last copies of...
Vincent, some good news and some bad news. First, the dirt is still present in the optical effects shots. Its never really so bad that it becomes a major distraction, but it is there. Everything else about this transfer is stunning. It is as clear and sharp as you could expect. The disc sports...
Well Paul, I guess that seals the deal for me. I was afraid I would have to watch with subtitles. I still think I am gonna wait on the Paramount stuff. I think we will begin hearing about a number of new releases in the weeks following the holidays. Why is Equilibrium already out-of-print...
How long can one person sit in one place without their posterior getting numb? The space issue is a non-issue as far as I am concerned. Although I understand the HD DVD group is working on discs beyond HD DVD's current capabilities. Each disc in the "Smallville" set contains 3-4 episodes or...
I'm gonna apologize in advance. THAT'S One of the MAIN reasons you SUPPORT BLU-RAY???? LOL The War IS over. Thank God you didn't say the blue cases. The Smallville case is roughly the size of 2 HD DVD single cases. I doubt that will matter much to 99% of the consumers. When I was...
I am fighting the desire to order The Machinist, King Kong '76 and The Elephant Man because Paramount will probably hurry domestic release if they have made their way to HD DVD in Europe already. I plan on ordering John Carpenter's The Fog, Basic Instinct, Rebellion (Equilibrium) and Total...
Your statements about price and release dates are only short-term situations because the competition between the two high definition formats will surely drive prices down and quality up faster. You will see more and more HD DVD and dare I say, Blu-ray releases day and date as the formats mature...
I guess you also did a poll, Ed. Chris, I understand your question but don't have the answer. All I can say is that both those HD DVDs look pretty good to me. Do they have the Look and Sound of Perfect? I don't really know what perfect looks and sounds like. ...ask Ed. ;)
That is a non sequitur. You are going to take a marketing tag line and attach a literal meaning to it? I suppose you take the term "New and Improved" seriously every time it is attached to a product? How about Coke: The Real thing? I think Pepsi would disagree. Maybe you think all Campbell Soups...
