my onkyo 876 did the same. so i went to the bck of the receiver and found two loose threads of spk cable touching the bck plate so I took a knife at made shure that no threads were touching and this fixed my problem. the cables caused me to short out the receiver.

ha Matthew i went through the same thing as you. i own the onkyo txsr 876. your amp will pick up on it automatically if the signal is being sent to it proper. As for your hdmi cable it will work just fine as long as you dont have the signal coming through "pcm". my blu-ray will not do dts...
