Like you, my first VHS was The Third Man for about $20. I think my first DVD was The Searchers. I don't remember my first Blu-ray purchase. The first 4k was The Guns of Navarone, which I knew was not a big improvement, but I like the movie and didn't have the Blu-ray.
I'm reading lots of...
Winning this Denon would give me the perfect excuse to shop for new speakers. My 63" Samsung plasma suits me perfectly for now, so that would remain. Then let the viewing and listening pleasure begin. :)
Good luck to everyone!
I am very satisfied with my Samsung plasma, so adding this receiver and upgrading speakers would be great. A new Blu-ray player might also be affordable since the price on this Denon is so nice.
My living room is my theater. I live alone so no one complains about anything I do there. :D I'm happy with my Samsung plasma tv and other components, so adding this Onkyo would improve the sound and give me the fun of choosing additional speakers.
What a great opportunity for someone to win this. Onkyo quality is excellent and this would expand my sound to a much higher level than I have now. Whoever wins it will be very lucky.
Rio Grande - One of Wayne's best acting jobs. Ford takes the time to let Wayne's face show us character depth. And Wayne and Maureen O'Hara were perfect as separated husband and wife. A beautiful movie in many ways.
An old friend visited this past weekend. We watched "Poirot: How Does Your Garden Grow?," "Notorious," and "Blithe Spirit," (which he chose out of a group of 10 or so discs I let him consider). He hadn't seen any of them and liked them all.
I couldn't agree more. "The Best Years of Our Lives" seems better each time I watch it... and that has been many times. I would love to have it on Blu-ray.
Bruce, I agree with what you say, but even more, I LOVE the way you say it. This was a pleasure to read. :) I saw "Picnic" when it was first in theaters and that sequence you mention stunned me. It still does. I think the music deserves equal credit with the cinematography. Truly a magic moment.
