Dont worry about the ratings of your speaker. Most of the time you will be using less than 5 watts of the 800 watts (depending on your room size). Only during the dynamic scenes will you be taxing a few hundred watts (at most) of the amp. So your speakers are safe. And also before you see how...
I am kind of late in this discussion but here is what I noticed when I went from a 3801 as a preamp to a Ref 50. Right out of the box without any tweaking the ref 50 sounded much cleaner and transparent. Had a much bigger soundstage and the sound seemed clean even at high volumes. The bass was...
Speakers are not static loads and change their impedance with freq. Polk speakers are somewhat difficult to drive as they have impedance dips in the 4ohm region. The receivers are tested in the lab with static loads so a separate amp with a 100W rated output might sound more powerful than a...
Donny, Did you friend try the Denon with the B&W speakers. I have found the Denon makes a great combo with B&W. Very transparent and neutral combo. I thought the Denon measured somewhat higher output compared to the Yamaha in the S&V shootout so the lack of dynamics, esp. with JBL's which are...
I would buy the Denon based on the sound alone and the lack of a gazillion confusing surround modes. I am more into straight stereo 2 channel music and an occasional flick or two so the Denon would be my choice. Of course one must choose based on features and ease of use also so YMMV.
Hi, I am trying to decide between the two on purely HT performancewise. I have a separate all tube music rig so I am not concerned about the 2ch performance of my HT system. I can find the ref 50 for about $1200 used and a little less for a new 3806. I have a B&K 5 channel separate amp and my...
