    Denon sub problem

Hi. I have a denon 2807 and a powered sub in a 5.1 arrangement. Now, when I am in some sort of pro logic setup I will get sound from the sub. If I go to a 2 channel mode then I get nothing from the sub. It is set for LFE plus Main. I really like listening to 2 channel stereo. Since my...

    Paying for a name?

Thanks. So far I am happy with them. Just trying to get everything back to normal on my receiver since he changed a bunch of stuff. Cant seem to get my sub working again. It is enabled, it works on the calibration noise, but it does not play. Guess I have to RTFM. Thanks again.

    Paying for a name?

Ok, I took my receiver down there and tried those speakers. While they did not sound quite as full as when played with their $4000+ Marantz, they still sounded very nice. So I have a pair of Dynaudo Focus 140's and a 200C in my car. I'll order the sub and rears later. Thanks for all...

    Paying for a name?

Well, I had a huge response typed and was just finishing it up when my toddler grabbed my mouse and somehow made it disappear. (mouse has a bunch of buttons on it that I don't use) I'll create an abbreviated version: Nothing at the Magnolia room at Best Buy impressed me but many of the...

    Paying for a name?

Thanks. I'm gonna go listen to some more speakers tonight. I have the chance to purchase some demo speakers of the Dynaudio Focus line at a bit of a discount. Wrong color, bigger than I wanted, above my price range even after the discount, but those things sounded good and had a lot of punch...

    Paying for a name?

I don't specifically remember what the complaints were. They were not really complaints so much as minor grumblings. My poorly illustrated point was that those companies seemingly have nobody complaining about them but I do remember seeing some minor "perceived" infractions from NHT. On the...

    First HT system....thoughts???

Who DIDN'T own a set of Realistic (Optimus anyone?) speakers? I had the 15"s!!!!! You could see the fuse (I assume thats what it was) in the crossover glowing at high bass levels. Great fun. Rob

    Paying for a name?

Damn. Those Rocket bookshelves are deep. 13.5" plus wall mount. That may knock them out of the running. I'll measure tonight when I get home. I found a local retailer for Definitive (besides Best Buy). They only had the Mythos or their powered sub bookshelves. At first he was only hooking...

    Paying for a name?

Ok, trying to narrow it down. Since the room is a bit small, I will go with 5.1 Option 1: AV123 Rockets bookshelves $700, Surrounds $600, Center $600 Approx $2100 Plus I would need brackets (a bit over my budget) OR the X series XCS x3 $420, Surrounds $219 = $640 (a bit under my budget)...

    Paying for a name?

Thanks for the feedback and the links. I'll chew on this for a bit and see if I can get a listen somewhere. Since the room is so small, should I be pro or con for bipole/dipole speakers for the surrounds?

    Paying for a name?

Ok, for some reason I thought that the Denon AVR 2807 was 4 ohm stable. It is not. It is only stable down to 6 ohms. Part of my problem is that CC has no selection and no employee has EVER come in the sound room to assist me in my last 5 visits (last 4 years or so). It is like they have...

    Paying for a name?

I am looking at new speakers for my small theater room. It measures approx 12x15. I have a Panny 50" and a Denon HDMI upconverting receiver (cant remember the model offhand). Now, for speakers I see the Polk LS series that will set me back $1700 lsi9/7/c for a 5.0 system Polk Monitors...

    Denon 2807 Setup help please

Well, my ears are not that talented when it comes to setting up my speakers. If you have a 7.1 setup then it will work very well. If not, you would need to set it up as a 5.1 and it will also work well. It just cannot auto setup a 6.1. Other than that, I am extremely pleased with the...

    Denon 2807 Setup help please

No dice. I could not get anything to work without completely disabling the rear surrounds. Quite a shortfall considering the quality of the receiver... Just adjusted them manually for now. Guess I will have to set up 7.1 to use the Audessey setup.

    Denon 2807 Setup help please

Thank you for your reply. If I recall correctly, the first stage of the auto setup must be passed before it will allow you to do the speaker verification stage. I will check that when I get home tonight though.

    Denon 2807 Setup help please

Well, I got the 2807 on the shelf and connected. Now, I tried to run the Audessey auto setup. I first set my speaker config to 6.1 by putting the surround rear to the "1 speaker" setting. Unfortunately I guess Audessey can only set up a 7.1 system. The receiver knows that there is only one...

Binding post spacing Denon vs Sony

I just upgraded my receiver from a Sony ES (3000) to a Denon 2807. I previously used the dual banana plug connectors but the binding post spacing is different on the Denon. I know it is a long shot, but is there some way to adjust them or do I need to stop using those connectors? Thanks...

Looking for HDMI Receiver Please help

Thanks for the input. My brain was starting to hurt in trying to make the decision. I pulled the trigger and ordered a Denon 2807. The 2307CI would have worked too but the 2807 seemed a bit more robust and included the Audessey setup. May have been a foolish upgrade, but what the heck. I...

Looking for HDMI Receiver Please help

Well, I think that the Onkyo is fine if you don't need all the inputs since the 5 HD inputs must be mapped to 4 selectors on the receiver. I had purchased the Onkyo "HT in a box" from CC. It had one channel out on the receiver so I exchanged the receiver and that has been fine for 2 years...

Looking for HDMI Receiver Please help

Well, after looking at the three receivers that Circuit City had (no salesperson ever came to help me) and looking in the Magnolia room at Best Buy (no salesperson ever came to help me) I see that there are a few options for the HDMI switching. I did get to see the back of the Onkyo 674 which...

Looking for HDMI Receiver Please help

Thanks John. Do the Denon and Yamaha have better surround processors? Is it worth the extra money over the Onkyo? Also, does it matter which "technology" of surround software they use? Denon with its DSP modes vs Yamaha with THX/Dolby etc... Thanks again. That was exactly what I was...

Looking for HDMI Receiver Please help

Hi. I have searched the forums and cannot find a specific answer. Only talks about upconverting vs switching vs upscaling. Here is my issue: I have 2 video games with component outputs, Dish HD HDMI, DVD player with component (may be upgraded to HDMI), and a pc (dvi/hdmi adapter). I...
