howdy robert!
i'm curious about your thoughts on Sony's ATMOS mixes for various titles they've been releasing over the years such as:: lawrence of arabia, anatomy of murder, guns of navarine, etc and even the ones included on this columbia classics volume 4k.
i took some time recently to...
1. i handle it by not buying stuff i know i wont rewatch, which is 99% of TV imho. i've got an extremely small/tiny amount of TV collection (well, small compared to most folks here on enthusiasts communities).
2. occasionally i'll sell it, for example the OG 1990s the flash. yeah i've seen it a...
you can find out whether any title has steelbook or slips or whatever by visiting blu dash ray dot com.
as for remasterting TNG style, that was a unique event that happened at the height of DVD/Blu media at the right time and right place. i can't think of any other TV series that received that...
someone mentioned this already, but i just wanted to confirm, does this complete every hitchcock universal has rights to? like there won't be a volume 4, right?
this is the final volume?
my qualifier for "bad disc" is if you cant rip it on a pc bdrom, i have something like 5+ bdrom and if i can't rip it across all of them, i would concede. computer roms have so much more error checking then standalone players.
have you tried ripping it, not using the utility to read sectors, but just rip it. if it rips, it should work, the disc.
like many i've been a optical disc collector since laserdisc days. i think i've only experienced once maybe twice in the many decades since. it's EXTREMELY RARE.
this IS my processor for separates. i've already got 7x200wpc i'm using now. all i need are 4 more channels for the ceiling speakers.
i couldn't really find that in many comparison articles... the info sheet/data is scant on the newer 3800 vs. 3700... but that does it for i'm going w/3800...
have al el cheapo mount. what mount do you have when massive subwoofer sequences happens your projector doesnt shake or if young children is running on the floor up above your image doesnt shake. anyone?
have a shot a buying denon 3700 which doesnt have dirac but 3800 will. should i wait or just pull the trigger in 3700? i think that is the only feature that is “new” all the hdmi features appears to be identical.
transformers revenge of the fallen IMAX walmart exclusive. i played it once years ago and it's been sitting next to my player because i'm too lazy to put the blu-ray case back on the media shelving. so everytime i cant decide or am just too lazy for any reason (you name) i hit play or put the...
spoiler alert: when analog films debuted in the original cinemas, new york screening is not going to look 100% identical to LA screening and so on. by the virtue of being an analog medium and so many potential issues from completed post to duplicating film negatives to final projection, not...
all the servers that run the software and retains post data all costs $. ads help keep all of the lights on.
not sure if there is any profit and if there is, probably super slim if at all existent.
unless the userbase is very small, every online forum that serves "customers" needs to figure...
let's not forget most humans have a little bit of vision and hearing loss due to the incredible amount of audiovisual pollution we have today & it continues to increase.
by the time anyone is able to actually afford the equipment we've got even more vision/hearing loss than before. and yes...
welcome! ok, so is this going to be like Oprah, where, instead of cars. we all get speakers under our chairs?
"you get a pair of speakers, you get a pair of speakers, EVERYONE gets a pair of speakers!" :rolling-smiley:
AU CONTRAIRE MON FRÈRE
i’ve got 4k hdr dolby vision in my living room, it aint OLED but damn it looks great!
that’s the issue is none of the sdr can look great when 4k discs are tonemapped. when i use sdr it looks appropriate.
hdr just belongs to direct view imho that can really bring out the...
i have demod some in showrooms, i think the jvc nx or nv or somn 5 or 9 i cant remember now it’s the older gen now the newest one that can do 4k120, also the sony xrc somn somns.
actually that reminds me one of my friend was finishing his basement and his optoma i think was p1 it was like the...
not all DP/filmmakers are a fan of HDR.
i know a few friends who work in vfx/editing part of movie industry. they basically say that the HDR pass is automated for consumers. most of the times DP/directors aren't looking at it frame by frame. that's all done in the color timing portions of...
guilty as charged! hahaha!
i'm ok with 1080p on projection. hdr on current projectors are too overblown for my taste. if that i ever changes, i'll circle back. until that day 4k hdr is relegated to direct view tech. only for me.
it just seems like everyone is always happy to jump on the...
i had forgotten that i know a couple of online friends who tonemaps 4k discs/sources to their projectors (both SDR & HDR projectors) & have years and years of experiences with madvr+mpv. so i reached out to them and it just confirms what i suspected all along. so i'll not be wasting more time on...
immersiveness of projection is unbeatable for sure! that's why i've stuck with projection & also i still like 3D (in spite of everyone else. abandoning it). so i get that point. otherwise, i would have stopped using projectors a long time ago. my other direct view in my basement where my...
i picked more than that one title but i used that as an illustration for the sake of brevity. 2k1, matrix1, etc. all exhibited the same issues. the blu-ray copies were sourced from the same 4k masters. the point is the same, i could not get any of the 4k discs to look *exactly* like the 1080p...
true! all i've got to lose is time =P.
re: 4k projector. based on my own research re: 4k HDR projectors. it is my understanding that even on 4k projectors, you try to output SDR and then use madvr to tonemap it to SDR. so in effect, you are not using the overblown hdr mode of 4k projectors...
