Donner Superman 2 SE (merged thread)

The new presentation, has minor imperfections due to its aegis, but it looked terrific, sounded great, and finally had something that was totally missing from the Lester version...HEART. I'm just curious, outside of Lester and Mankiewicz telling us how much more "heartfelt" their version is...

Donner Superman 2 SE (merged thread)

I think what may be a problem with fan reaction is that there are many of us who know the history -- but the general public far and wide doesn't. For them, there are going to be many folks who expect a full, completed film -- after all, it has its own separate, standalone release. There's no...

Donner Superman 2 SE (merged thread)

Paul, thanks! One of the problems with reviewing this is that it's NOT a finished movie. But at the same time it's being sold as such (at least as much as it has its own release) that you DO have to assess it as a "movie" like any other. On that level it is anything but satisfying -- in fact...

hey everyone, just posted my review: http://www.andyfilm.com/11-15-06.html Fascinating AND disappointing at the same time...

Any reviews of BLUE THUNDER SE?

I'm surprised folks are bypassing this so quickly due to the soundtrack (which sounds like a product of its time, but it's far superior to the older Sony disc which wasn't even 5.1 as memory serves). The supplements are terrific -- an excellent 45 minute, brand new documentary, a superb...

Howard The Duck On DVD?? Please

I actually kind of like the movie...I'm sure there are people who hate it, but let's face it, a lot of the bad rep is from folks who laugh at the title, know it bombed theatrically, know Lucas produced it, but never actually saw it. I've always found it to be entertaining and even quite funny in...

DVD Review HTF Review: A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy Come Home

Great review Pat and I would agree with your assessment. I got the distinct impression the ratios are not zoomed in, but simply over-matted...most of the image looks fine but there's no question the top of the frame is being clipped and it's evident throughout both movies. If you look at...

    Peanuts Theatricals...

hey guys, I just got my review copies in. I think Paramount did the best with what they had to work with -- there's a quite a bit of dirt in the BOY NAMED CHARLIE BROWN print -- but the aspect ratio is what I would question here. After doing an A/B comparison with the old laserdisc on ABNCB...

"Raise The Titanic" - what gives with this transfer?

RAISE THE TITANIC is actually an ITC film, and was distributed theatrically in the U.S. by Associated General...Fox had nothing to do with it outside of releasing the old VHS tape. The Widescreen DVD (R2) I have was put out by Carlton and is OOP, unless it has been re-issued. It's 16:9...

"Raise The Titanic" - what gives with this transfer?

The UK DVD started off at 2.35 and went to 1.85 (though was still was 16:9 enhanced) for the rest of the movie. 2.0 stereo sound (I believe mistakenly listed as mono) as well, making it probably the best DVD of the movie out there.

Now that Donner is not involved in editing a movie that he never completed in the first place, how in the world can they actually say it's "THE RICHARD DONNER CUT"?

    Sony/MGM possible sale of UA

It's ironic how the "big movies" that are part of the MGM label now aren't MGM movies at all...they're UA films like 007 and the Pink Panther franchises. And now UA is being sold, but the "big" UA films won't be part of it...and I'm assuming lesser *MGM* properties will. So the new MGM is...

Any word of a price tag or whether they will be sold individually? I have no interest in revisiting SUPERGIRL, especially in light of Anchor Bay's comprehensive coverage in their 2-disc Special Edition.

David Lynch's DUNE--new DVD (merged thread)

The music is the same, and so are the credits -- if you notice there's the same, jittery video-added title card "New Material Copyright Universal" under the DeLaurentiis copyright card at the very end.

David Lynch's DUNE--new DVD (merged thread)

OK there are screen caps at duneinfo.com Obviously you can see the ratio is 2.35, and only the prologue is affected by the framing. Again, where's this 1.85 stuff coming from?

David Lynch's DUNE--new DVD (merged thread)

I'm not sure where this info is coming from but my copy is very clearly 2.35 at every point. Is there some shareware out there I can download to grab some screen caps for you guys? Sorry I'm not too savvy on that front.

David Lynch's DUNE--new DVD (merged thread)

Will_B: There isn't, but I think Vincent nailed it on the head. Bill: As you know I can respectfully disagree with you anytime. :) I do wish they could have matted the prologue correctly too, but it's just not a priority for me -- had they done the prologue in 4:3 they could have just as...

David Lynch's DUNE--new DVD (merged thread)

Dave: I understand, I think all of us want a Criterion style treatment. That said, I don't think Universal is being underhanded at all: it even says Extended Version with the text "Theatrical Version (Directed by David Lynch) and Extended Version (Directed by Alan Smithee, Screenplay by...

David Lynch's DUNE--new DVD (merged thread)

Well the TV cut has been released pretty much in every territory in the world by this point. I think Universal held out as long as they probably could in terms of getting Lynch involved -- my best guess after watching all the supplements is that the Theatrical Cut IS his Director's Cut, he knew...

David Lynch's DUNE--new DVD (merged thread)

hey guys, Just posted my review at Andyfilm.com I'm not a technophile so I'll leave an assessment of the transfer to the HTF experts :) The Steelbook-styled packaging is also nice. As was posted before it's too bad the trailer was not included, but if you have any one of the other...
