Off to San Diego next week. Are there any blu ray retailers in the area that are worth a visit. Looking for Warner Archive and 20th Century classic titles as well as a few of the mainstream releases.
Watched the director's cut a couple of nights ago. At 4 hours plus it seemed a long stretch without an intermission; there is a fade out at about the 150 minute mark, was this intended intended to be for an intermission that never came?
Last night I started to watch the film with the...

Sony BDP-S5200 player. Has anyone experienced any sound sync problems with this player? With my player, after about 90 minutes into a film the sound gradually starts to lag behind the picture. After about two hours it is unwatchable and the player needs to be rested for a short while; it...
Visiting Vancouver in September; any recommendations as to the best stores to purchase blu ray discs. Looking for mainstream titles such as 42nd Street, 1776 amongst others.
Thanks.
Why is DTS HD Master so popular with Blu Ray releases? It seems to on its way to becoming the standard. DTS was very much a niche market with dvd releases and I thought Dolby would have carried over their advantage to Blu Ray.
Changing from Verizon adsl, which has been slow and far from reliable, to Road Runner inernet from BrightHouse inTampa which is via cable. Thinking of going wireleess at the same time and they are offering a "special deal" on a wireless router of $150.00. Now, looking at Best Buy wireless...
Watched Evita last night. Non anamorphic, single layer and with rather "thin" sound; seems like a titlte that must warrant a Blu release. Is there any hope of a Blu Ray release on the way?
"Yahoo Chat" has appeared on my Yahoo mail inbox homepage. Takes up about 1" of space and displaces all my folders. I don't want it but I don't know how to be rid of it. I have looked in "Add/ Remove programmes" but can see nothing there. Any ideas? Thanks, Brian
I have my cable box and Blu Ray player connected via my receiver to my lcd tv using hdmi cables. Is there a setting (or combination of settings) that will allow me to get sound and picture to my display with the receiver in standby? Sony BD 350 Blu Ray player Sony STR-DG820 receiver...
With the advances in technology over the past 15 to 20 years, would the films that went through the restoration process in the 90's benefit from being revisited? (Thinking of titles like South Pacific, Spartacus, Oklahoma etc.) Or, would any improvement not be justified by the cost involved...
Short of an optical input on my amp until the next upgrade. I have a spare digital coax input available so I am thinking of using a TOSLink Optical to Digital Coaxial SPDIF convertor box Has anyone used one of these? If so, do they do the business? Thanks
I am thinking of getting a Samsung LCD TV Model: LN32A330. In the description it says "optional set top box required for High Definition cable programming". I am not too familiar with how HD works in the States so, is this box provided by the cable company (Verizon) or, is it someting I have to...
One of the major UK retailers is committing to Blu-Ray only from March. Interesting to note the ratio of Blu-Ray sales to HD DVD sales. Woolworths backs Blu-Ray format over HD DVD
Using Verizon dsl Thunderbird has suddenly stopped showing the date on new emails in my inbox. Still shows the time. What have I screwed up? Thanks, Brian
Finally got round to watching my region 2 dvd of Becket last night. From about 1 hour 10 minutes the sound from the rear surrounds seemed to be running 7 or 8 seconds ahead of the main channels. The problem lasted for about 35 minutes and then seemed to resolve itself (or my mind just blanked it...
Getting to the stage of replacing my receiver. To be capable of getting the best out of DVD-HD or BluRay (whichever wins!) will I need an amp with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding capability? Brian
To mark the centenary of his birth the entire David Lean back catalogue is to be released in cinemas in their original format next year. The BFI has received funding to restore his 7 black & white films as well as his first two colour moviues. For the full article see...
Just wondering whether the recently relealeased version of "The Cowboys" shows any improvement over the one that came out a few years ago. Does it have the intermission and is it the longer ( 70mm blowup ) version or the general release cut? Brian
I have been told by several recipients that my some of my emails show as "spam" on their computers or are automatically sent to the deleted folder. Using Yahoo mail to send and nothing controversial in the header or the text. Anyone any idea as to what might be causing this? Thanks, Brian
Just changed my car and no cd changer in the new one; looks a big job to install as well. So lateral thinking to plan "B"! Would it be possible to record a selection of my cd's on to a cd in MP3 format. I think that this would allow me to get a lot more onto the cd. If it is practical, then...
I have two computers; laptop and desktop. For mail I use Outlook Express. Is there an easy way of keeping the messages in sync on both computers. When I am working away I often find that the message I want is sitting cosily on the other computer; it can be a real bind! To sync the emails before...
Is there a good widescreen version of this film with 5.1 sound out there. Ideally, without subtitles. Reports on the various far east versions seem to indicate poor quality transfer.
Finally got around to watching Dr No (ultimate edition). Noticed a marked drop in sound level after 1 hour 18 mins just as they meet the "dragon". It lasted about 10 minutes and then came back to the previous level; the problem seemed to be the same on both the DD and DTS trtacks. Anyone else...
