CRT or Rear Projection - Your opinion please?

are you kidding!? ...maybe you were being sarcastic. anyway, RP CRT would be the absolute worst choice ever. i love the direct-view crt's...SO hard to come close to, especially if you are comparing a rp lcd. however, John is right- screen size makes a huge difference. i'd go with a 36" crt...

Is an SVS PB10 worth $280 more than 12in Dayton?

while i love to make a 'smart buy' and save some money, i find it terribly difficult to buy something that i know is not top notch. with that said, the pb10 is known as the best sub for the money- all things considered. it's a much better investment for the future of you A/V system than the dayton.

    ventriloquist

i've heard some great things about the v-12 system. as for the subs, the stf-2 and pb10 are closely matched. i would without a doubt go with the stf-2 over the pb10, if you're buying the ventriloquist...for the discount, if nothing else.

Which >40in. LCD or Plasma to buy?

unless your in-laws have superb eyes and have limited their TV watching to HD over the last few years, the extra $$$ for the pioneer would be worthless. i am very pleased with my 42PX50U...and i'm quite particular about my PQ.

thanks everyone. 350-600!? i hope to god the calibration makes a noticable difference. otherwise, i'll never hear the end of it from my dad. i'll have to do some research on the quality of this place before i push this along.

Is Sony leaving the direct view CRT market?

that would be a shame. i loved my 30" 1080i. i wish i could get the same picture in something bigger than a 36". ...they do get a little heavy though!

    who professionally calibrates RP CRTs?

i've been meaning to find this out for some time, but keep putting it off... my parents have a panasonic HD 52" RP CRT (that had been moved a few times). i never released how bad the HD picture looked until i bought my panaosnic HD 42" plasma. i tried calibrating their tv with my dv...

    System for $500

for $500 it's going to be streching it...but possible. sounds like an adequate sub is a must for your listening style (and 60" screen!!!). with that said, i'd suggest the ventriloquist system (w/stf-2) for $559. second option would be the athena point 5s and add an STF-2 or PB-10isd. also...
