    Budget Upgrade: SVS or Atheana?

For a receiver, look at the RX-v2500. Everything the 2600 has except HDMI upconversion (run video straight to the TV anyway). More audio features than the 1600 and can be found for less.

best budget reciever? (yamaha htr-5930sl) questions and advice

Yamaha HTR 5890 is available at B&H Photo new (authorized dealer) for just under $500 (originally sold for $800), one of the best values I know of now.

    what would you do? rx-v2500, vsx-816, avr-2106 or vsx-1015

Yamaha has direct buttons on the remote, just not front of unit. From a feature standpoint nothing comes close to the yamahas at a given price point (especially the RX-v2500), you may not have discovered everything it will do, but especially for the price, it is quite amazing. Combined with...

    HDMI Upconversion Receivers

Especially since your TV has 2 HDMI inputs I believe it is better to run directly to the TV from your video sources. 1) each input on the TV will probably allow its own video settings (if the receiver switches you go to a single input on the TV, leaving you with the same settings for all...

    RX-V2500 Tone Controls

The 3 frequencies are adjustable shelf points for the bass or treble. It is one adjustment (1 for bass, and 1 for treble) with 3 options each for the shelf point. All this in addition to full adjustment of the parametric EQs...I love this receiver!

Receiver Suggestion 1K budget, new technology

I highly recommend the Yamahas. I think they have the most features (zone 2 and 3, and extended remote codes, memory presets, etc.) and are certainly among the Tops in sound quality. I recently posted my experience with the HK 635 that I returned for the Yamaha 2500. I agree with the lack of...

Receiver Shootout - Denon AVR-3806 VS Yamaha RX-V2600, Which one would you buy? And W

I don't have any first hand experience with the Denon but have read the manual. I recently purchased the yamaha rxv 2500 and couldn't be happier. The Eq on the Denon with measurements from different positions in the room is nice in concept. I like the 7 band parametric eq the yamaha uses with...

2nd/3rd Zone help regarding the Yamaha HTR-5890

Yes that will work. Zone 2 is the only one capable of being powered by the rear amps (leaving main zone in 5.1). Zone 3 is line level audio out only, but switched independent of main zone and zone 2. Zone 2 has video also, not zone 3. One thing I am not sure is: if you want 7.1 in main room...

    HELP: mid-priced a/v receiver suggestions??

Yamaha...I have worked with yamaha before and now have finally purchased my own and couldn't be happier. To stay under $700 you could get the HTR 5890, about 2 models old (originally sold for $800, can now get at B&H Photo just under $500-still best value for $500.) I bought the RXV-2500 for...

Explain A-B selector on a receiver

That should be fine. One thing I did for my zone 2 was to get an inexpensive surround receiver (a sherwood for about $150 at Circuit City), cheapest I could fine with Multichannel inputs. I split the stereo zone 2 output of my main receiver, sent 1 stereo LR to the front multi inputs, and...

Denon AVR-3805 won't send digital audio to two rooms -- alternatives?

that is a limitation of zone 2 (or more) outputs, they will only switch and pass through analog, to do otherwise they would have to include another DAC in the receiver (which would be a nice feature.) That would be fine for stereo/ PCM sources but for DD/DTS there could be some weirdness. Don't...

DVD audio/SACD Subwoofer channel lower volume

Or...have a receiver that does adequate BM on the multichannel inputs independent of the main setup. Some that do have been mentioned on this thread, although some level adjust on both the player and the receiver would be ideal.

DVD audio/SACD Subwoofer channel lower volume

I started this thread after setting up both a toshiba sd 5915 and a panasonic (can't remember model number), both 5 disk changers, that clients had purchased. From memory I believe the toshiba had no level adjustments at all for each channel, the other had balance controls (to balance center and...

DVD audio/SACD Subwoofer channel lower volume

My guess is that BM in the player is possible. But, with processing to handle the higher resolution necessary it makes it more expensive, resulting in only the higher priced units having adequate BM, with it slowly trickling down to the less expensive units. The sad thing is that manufacturers...

DVD audio/SACD Subwoofer channel lower volume

True, and hopefully 10 dB is enough, if it turns out you need 12-15 dB you're out of luck. However, combining a DVD player (with the +/- 6 dB adjust) with a reciever (such as the Integra) that has sub boost and BM you should be able to compensate for anything.

DVD audio/SACD Subwoofer channel lower volume

That's the point of this thread. Most lower priced universal disk players don't have adequate BM. Most recievers until the latest models (with few exceptions) don't do any BM on the multichanel input. Even the higher priced universal disk players that do decent BM may only have +/- 6dB level...

Balenced VS unbalenced and where to buy?

true-however, it would be possible for a cable to be made with a 3 conductor cable and TRS connectors for interconnection of a stereo signal (sharing a common negative) where a cable intended for a balanced signal would be 2 conductor plus sheild to maximize rejection of noise

    HT Receiver suggestions

US price is $1000 Not too fond of Panasonic. The Yamaha units are nice but no adjustment capabilities with the multichannel inputs, a hot point for me right now. The Integra has very good bass management and level adjustment on the multichannel input, in addition to being a great overall...

In Iraq, TV Advice for when I return

if tv will be used for everyday and movies then the biggest consideration is how much light comes into the room. the lcd and dlp (and LCOS) rear proj are very bright and a good size would be in the $3-4K range. Which Receiver???????/

I have been meaning to read the manuals on the newer onkyos, and compare to the Integras (same parent company, similar models). have just read the manual on the Integra 6.5, newest version of my receiver 6.2 that I like very much, should retail for around $1000. Am considering getting this...

I am looking at the Integra 6.5 right now www.integrahometheater.com. Currently I own the older version 6.2 and would highly recommend. The 5.5 would be a little less. If you download the manual they share the manual with notations regarding the features that only pertain to the 6.5.

Balenced VS unbalenced and where to buy?

if the equipment you are connecting them to doesn't have balanced connection there isn't much point in having them on the amp inputs. Even if it does with short (typical home use) cable runs it isn't going to buy you much still. You should be able to get cables at most music stores that sell...

166 ft-L for the JVC, don't think plasmas come close (looked up reviews on a couple and they were in the 30s ft-L). Check out the review for the JVC at Hometheatermag. Plasma will have a wider viewing angle. Measure your room for viewing positions, then find one to look at to see if the...

    Plasma Newbie

do you have specific reasons you want the thin panel? If not, why not a micro display rear proj. For brightness the JVC D-ILA (LCOS) is very bright-and a good picture.
