It was indeed the entire movie. Probably around 10 reels, I don’t remember the exact number. It was in a nice vinyl case with the poster artwork. It was pan & scan, unfortunately. It was the only complete movie I had. I had two-reel, condensed versions of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes...
I was 17 when this came out in 1979, and saw it several times in the theater. I loved it. Over the years, my opinion has slipped. It's now more of a guilty pleasure.
Count me among those that find this disc acceptable. Not great, but not nearly as bad as some have been describing. I'm watching on a 65" Panasonic plasma.
In case it hasn’t been mentioned, the UK edition of the TMP-DE box is five discs, with the DE and theatrical versions also on Blu-Ray, whereas the US version is UHD only.
EDIT: And it’s listed as region-free.
Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but the box set of I-VI is 15 discs. 3 discs for TMP, then 2 discs each for II-VI adds up to 13. What is on the other 2 discs?
I recently took the cellophane off of my TT copy of Zardoz and gave it a spin. It stuttered to a stop about 5 minutes in, then eventually skipped a minute ahead. I tried a careful cleaning of the disc with no change. I'm running a scan on it using the VSO Inspector recommended above by David...
I was fortunate enough to see this projected on a big screen at the Star Trek Mission Chicago convention last Friday, with David Fein providing a lengthy introduction and visiting with fans after the showing. Although it wasn't an actual movie theater, they did the everything they could to...
Somehow this one slipped by me until now. Ordered! I've never seen it, but I'm looking forward to it.
Slightly off-topic, can anyone recommend a good Errol Flynn biography, or comments on My Wicked, Wicked Ways?
I've seen it twice, once in IMAX and once in Dolby Cinema. I wanted to see it in the highest quality presentation before it's pushed out of those premium auditoriums later this week. I was only casually familiar with the 1961 original, but I very much enjoyed this new version. Highly...
Forgive my ignorance, but can someone elaborate on the original color timed version on the second Blu-Ray? Does this match the look of the original theatrical release?
I cannot wait to own this next week! Enjoyed it in the theater (my first post-COVID screening), and I've been listening to the soundtrack almost daily since then. Absolutely love this movie.
Thanks, Josh, that gives me a pretty good idea of what to expect. I'll be going on Sunday. They show the movie at 12:30, then I'll spend the rest of the afternoon in the exhibit. Sounds like I'll have plenty of time to take everything in.
That's an article I'd love to read, Josh.
I'm heading to NYC to see the 2001 exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image this coming weekend. Anything you recommend keeping an eye out for?
I first saw it during its theatrical release in 1984. I had just reread the book, and was totally disappointed in the movie.
I had a chance to see it again a few months later, and this time something clicked, and it completely worked for me. It's definitely a David Lynch movie, so you need to...
I agree, the new version was a major disappointment. It was well-produced with some very likeable actors, but I could never get into the story. It really fell flat.
I did pick up the Blu-Ray of the 1994 production, and was pleasantly surprised by the picture quality. Not great, for sure, but...
Is nobody else excited to see this release? I'll be the first to admit it isn't a great movie, but I think it's a very entertaining one, with some appealing performances by the young stars.
Looking forward to this release! I'm 58 years old, but not very familiar with classic musicals. I'm hoping to change that. I bought The Pirate based on what I read here at HTF, and, in spite of its narrative flaws, enjoyed it very much.
I was in my late teens when this came out, and loved it! Saw it at least 3 times in the theater, and wore out my cassette soundtrack. I bought the recent CD reissue of the soundtrack, but haven't seen the movie itself in decades. I'm eager for the chance to revisit it!
Just finished getting my refund via online chat. (I waited in queue for about 20 minutes, starting at #74.) Thanks to everyone here who brought the price match to my attention!
