Ok, so I spent the weekend getting it set up. Gene, the issue with the HDMI cables was that I didn't have the right output assigned on my PS3. I think I've got almost everything running now but am still in process of reprogramming my remote. I also purchased and set-up Apple TV and connected the...
Ok, stupid question. Do the HDMI inputs/outputs allow for audio signals to pass through. In other words, do I need to use an optical cable or digital coax to get audio or does the HDMI support audio without the need for other cables.
Gene, thanks for your advice and for searching around. Agree that it seems like a good deal. I'm not into 3D so I'm not sure if 1.4 HDMI is a deal breaker for me. I'll probably pull the trigger later today so if anyone else has a strong opinion on this, I'd love to hear it. Thanks again.
So, let me give some more information on my setup. I run a multi-room setup with an outboard amp for the other room. Speakers are B&W FPM5s for the front and FPM 6s for the center. The 4 surrounds came with the house and are Bostons. May upgrade these at some time. Also have a powered sub. If...
So it looks like I need to replace my Marantz SR8500. I just saw that the Denon AVR 4810 is on sale for $1799 at Crutchfield. I realize it's a couple years old and there may be a replacement coming. Any suggestions on this deal versus other choices in this price range, lower or higher?
So, quick update. I found a shop locally to repair it and got it fixed for $90...seems like there were some loose connections that might have been causing the problems. All seems well now. Thanks for all the input.
Pretty sure some of the Denons have it. I've been out of the market for 6 years and haven't followed closely. Figured more would have it by now. If I'm wrong, let me know. Looks like you need to go to the 4810 in the Denon line to get it. Seems like a steep price for one feature. Probably...
Thanks guys, do these new Marantz amps handle Wi-fi? Not a deal breaker but I thought it would be nice to stream Pandora. I have an Airport so I can get iTunes, no problem. Anyone have any thoughts on repairing the SR8500? I also am interested in the idea of separates. I'd need a 7 channel amp.
Looks like my receiver may have bitten it. Last week, it kept going into autoprotect mode then shutting off. I poked around on the internet and found a recommendation to reset the receiver. Worked fine for one week after the reset, now it's not staying on. I'm planning to have my stereo guy come...
Thanks Alan - my issue is that I'm space constrained, and I can only mount speakers high on the walls - I can angle them down. While I can afford the more expensive Maggies, they're too large for my set-up.:frowning: So I'm wondering if the MMGW and MMGC will be better or worse than the...
Correction, it looks like the Maggies might fit. At least the MMGW's and MMGC. I'd need to mount about two inches from the ceiling...Would they work well with a Marantz SR8500 or an Arcam AVR300? Haven't decided yet between the two.
Both those option are too wide for my mounting area. If I go with the Mythos, I'll mount them about 6 inches from the ceiling and the center channel will be mounted inside my cabinet above the television. Any thoughts on the Paradigms? Maybe the Cinema Series?
Ok, so I got home from my trip and I don't think the Onix Reference 1's will work with my setup. They're 11 inches deep, and I'm wall mounting these speakers. I went to listen to the Def. Tech. Mythos today, and thought they sounded pretty good. Good enough for me to be happy with given the...
Yeah, I'm getting rid of the Boston sub, and replacing with a smaller sub - so I will still have a sub. I don't think I'd be happy with any bookshelf speaker without a sub given that I like to watch movies more than listen to music.
Anyone have any thoughts on the Onix Reference 1 series in comparison with the Role Discovery or Kayaks? After thinking things over, I'm thinking the Kayaks might not have a full enough range relative to what I'm used to, so I'm thinking three Discoverys might work better.
What do people do to reduce the possibility of burn-in on Plasma. I hear that this is less of an issue with some of the newer sets. I was leaning towards the plasma because of brightness as one wall in my room is full of windows.
Trying to come to a decision on a 50" HD Display. Because I'm limited in space because of my entertainment center (it's built into the house), I have a maximum width of about 49.5" making the Panasonic and the Pioneer plasmas too wide. I've also been looking at the new Samsung HLR5078W. I...
Just bought a new house which has a built in entertainment center. The configuration of the entertainment center makes it impossible for me to use floor standing speakers - thus it looks like I've got to switch to a satellite systems, or bookshelves mounted high on the wall. Thus, it looks like...
Hey Lee - I'm in the market for a plasma also. I'd consider waiting a few weeks as there's rumors of major price drops. I'm looking at the Pannasonics and the Pioneers, but am also considering DLP. We should get together and talk about it - been a long time since we've been in touch.
