    Burning Old VHS-C to DVD?

Not exactly an answer to your questions, but a recommendation nonetheless. If your VHS-C tapes contain anything you would like to archive, your first step should be to convert them from analog to digital video tape. While not foolproof, miniDV tape has much less of a chance of failing than...

    SNL Season 4

I kind of feel the single-disc specials (The First Five Years, Lost & Found) fill this void. Would be nice if they came with the sets, but they do give a decent overview of how the show was evolving behind the scenes.

In the Shadow of the Moon availability

I was fortunate enough to see this great film at the AFI theater in Silver Spring, MD. And today I found and purchased a copy (the only one) of the DVD at Best Buy. I'm guessing they didn't get the memo.

Young Indiana Jones Chronicles Vol 1 - October 23, 2007

Did anyone else notice the two different packaging variants? At my Best Buy, in the same rack (and same UPC) there were slightly different cover designs, one that just says "Volume One" and another that says 'Volume One: The Early Years." The spine text is also slightly different. No big...

Just got an all-region capable player. Any non-R1 discs I should look for?

If you like British TV comedy, I strongly recommend Spaced from region 2 (PAL). http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0002LXU6I/ It's very unlikely to show up (intact) in region 1 and it's the reason I got a multi-region player.

Spaced... any hope of an R1?

Few players are region-free out of the box (or advertized as such), but many have "hacks" which are basically button sequences entered via the remote that render the player region-free. Google around a bit to find lists of players and if they can be altered (not all can).

    Hill Street Blues abandoned?

I wonder how the the abandoning in the past of low-selling series (like Happy Days) and decision to ultimately release complete sets of shows (like M*A*S*H) in often more attractive and feature-rich packages (again, like M*A*S*H) have made some consumers wary of buying shows like Hill Street...

Big - will there ever be a re-release?

In The Man With One Red Shoe, there is a photo shown of Tom Hanks' character as a kid. I don't recall the guy's name who played him (it's not a credit in the film) but I always remember it because he was a friend of a friend at the time the movie came out. I don't think he went on to anything...

MASH The Complete Series Boxed Set

Short of marketing the bonus discs for retail purchase, I don't see why Fox wouldn't offer in the season 11 set a mail-in promotion where those who have bought the 1-10 season sets could send in the proofs of purchase (receipts would be a bit unrealistic at this point) and postage to get the two...

OLYMPIA -The LENI RIEFENSTAHL Archival Collection June 27th

The film in the trailer is quite dirty, and looks like it has videotape tracking noise at the bottom... not a great sign. http://www.pathfinderpictures.com/mov/olympia.html

The Larry Sanders Show (every rumor about future releases in one place)

Don & Mike, a couple of knucklehead DJs in DC had Garry Shandling on their radio show today. They asked when the rest of Larry Sanders was going to be released on DVD, and Shandling said November. No specifics about what will be released in November, but it's a vague date at least...

The Larry Sanders Show (every rumor about future releases in one place)

Another log to heap on the rumor mill pyre... Shandling was on Ellen this past Spring and mentioned that he was working on a Larry Sanders Show DVD set. She asked him if it would be a whole season or a "best" of." He said "best of."

Studios best / worst jobs of securing music rights

Not necessarily. Ren & Stimpy used, to great effect, "program music" which was largely music written independently for needle-drop insertion into a wide variety of projects, often industrial and educational films. It's cheesy and meant to sound that way. In his own way, John Kricfalusi was...

Great Trailers on DVDs—especially 70s trailers

Thanks Michael, that sums up what I know about the "faces" trailer. There are two great books about "The Exorcist", The Exorcist (BFI Modern Classics), by Mark Kermode and Hollywood Hex: An Illustrated History of Cursed Movies, edited by Mikita Brottman. Both are great supplements to the...

Great Trailers on DVDs—especially 70s trailers

The unused "faces" trailer for The Exorcist is one of the scariest I've ever seen. It's on the 25th anniversary DVD (but not on "The Version You've Never Seen" DVD, I believe).

    Kennedy Center Honors

They're a lot of fun to attend, as well. As a Kennedy Center employee, I get the chance each year to be a seat filler. Worst case, you watch the show standing in the back of the hall. I haven't heard anything about possible releases-- the rights issues would certainly be a nightmare.

Why couldn't they re-mix Imagine DVD?

For all the justified demanding we do on this board for OAR, I'm fine with audio being as true as possible to the original mix. But to guess at an answer to your question, I'd say money.

    Popular Science films

Somewhere in my VHS collection I have a tape of vintage Popular Science shorts I bought used from a video store. It's a commercially-produced product, but I can't seem to find any mention of it online. Though not exactly what you're looking for, you should check out the Prelinger Archives...
