How many watts is your current amp? Going up by say 50 watts will not make it any louder if thats what you are looking at.

    Need an affordable component cable........

I am not sure where you live but we can buy a good AR or Advent Composite cable for 9.99 CDN at ExesCargo. Good cables good price. I think most people are a little crazy when it comes to cables. I changed mine all when I found these at ExesCargo but I did not notice any difference from the older...

    pioneer 1014 craped out

Now having said the above. Lightning is another story for sure. But if you think that little frigging power surge protector is going to stop a full lightning bolt that hits a power transformer in your neighborhood. Well forget it cause it won't. It's like putting a pillow to protect your head...

    pioneer 1014 craped out

Quote "This is a silly statement, Everybody should use a surge protector if they value their equipment. Whenever the power goes out or comes back on, no matter how gentle you may think it seems, there is always a surge". Unquote Do you work for a surge protection company? The above...

    pioneer 1014 craped out

Sounds like Pioneer needs to address this problem. You shouldn't need to have a surge protector for any reciever. If it really needs one the manufacturer should have either supplied one or had one built in to the unit. I have had many many pieces of equipment over the years. Used them with...

    Speaker Watt Ratings

Just install a 1/2 amp quick blow fuse in the positive line of the speakers and the kids will have no choice but to keep it reasonable or no sound. Why did the manufacturers stop putting fuses in the speakers anyway?

    Question about Energy speakers

I just went through this myself. I auditioned in my home Dahlquist Q10s, Polk Audio RTi 16s and the Energy C-7. I chose the C-7 and I am very happy with that choice after 3 months. I think you need to narrow down the choices and take some home to listen to. Energys can be a little bright in some...

    Checked Out Speakers Today

Hey if the fella likes the sound of the Bose whats the problem. Sounds like a conspiracy against one company or the other. Hey man if you liked the sound of the Bose System and it truly tickles your ears, go for it. Reading info on a web site won't make it sound any different thats for sure.

    Question about this belt-drive turntable...

Hey Marco, what a neat looking turntable. I think the quality of the sound will depend on what you use for a needle. It won't be audiophile quality as the table is very important. If it is not a good unit you may notice some wow and flutter and you may get motor noise. It probably doesn't track...

DVD player-- rotel, denon or HK

I would think your HK DVD player is quite good for DVDs and the audio it supports. If you are looking for something to play just CDs then get a good CD only player. I don't know what your budget is like but you can get a really good CD player for around 600.00 to 800.00. Look at Arcam CD73...

    Suggestions for new CD player

Got the new Arcam CD73 home yesturday and listened till I fell off to sleep. What a difference a good machine can make. I am listening to my CD collection really for the first time. What wonderful lows you get with this thing. Not at all overpowering but a reall smooth low that is amazing. The...

    Suggestions for new CD player

Thanks all for your input. I decided to get and try the Arcam CD73. Just too much evidence on the net to not purchase this unit. Dealer says try it and if you are not happy he will give me a full refund. Seems to be miles ahead of the Rotel RCD1072 which is a fine piece of gear in it's own...

    Suggestions for new CD player

Thanks for the suggestion Aaron. I appreciate all I here but I am looking for a CD player that plays a lot better than well. I don't want to be fussy but I am looking to get the best CD player for the money. I don't want to comprimise on the DVD/CD thing. What shop do you have in Edmonchuc. I...

    Suggestions for new CD player

Hi all, I know most suggestions are just that, suggestions but I am looking to see what suggestions you have for a really good CD player. I'm not interested or will my budget allow for a 1500.00 unit so please don't suggest anything over the 1000.00 mark. I don't have access to a huge number of...

Analog (LPs & cassettes) to digital (MP3 or ?) conversion

I see where you are coming from. I thought you were going out of analog in favor of the digital stuff. No problem I was just curious as to why. Now I know. Have fun.

Analog (LPs & cassettes) to digital (MP3 or ?) conversion

I am sorry but I have to ask why do you want to convert your great analog sources into MP3???? You should give that analog stuff another listen because there is nothing wrong with analog source. Myself I enjoy listening to analog source material more than I do to "digital". If you think a CD...

This has probably been beaten to death here but...

Normal power or extension cords are for 15 amp only and usually are 14 gauge. Heavy duty ones may be as high as 8 but this is not the norm.

This has probably been beaten to death here but...

I should also point out that no matter the size of the wire all wire has resistance. If it didn't we wouldn't need big wires for anything. All resistance in a wire opposes amperage. Voltage is lost when pushing the amperage through a wire. Just get a decent wire of about 12 or 14 gauge and you...

This has probably been beaten to death here but...

I had a fello at an Audio Store tell me how the high frequency sounds traveled down the outside spiraled wire and the more bassy sounds travelled down the center part of the wire. He said it was absolutely critical that the 2 sounds arrived at the speaker at the same time. He said the high...

    Life without Stern isn't pretty...

I doubt it. I am certain that they probably have the right to cancel his contract if things don't pan out. Either way he won't get paid if they belly up and he won't get paid if he doesn't pay off. Over how long a period does he have this contract anyway.

Breaking News: XM to raise rates but include extras for subscribers

Ron, No I haven't really heard of it. I am not sure but I don't believe we have it in this market yet. Saskatoon Saskatchewan is not the test bed for new technology, unless its wireless internet. Sorry for my ignorance of this concept.

Breaking News: XM to raise rates but include extras for subscribers

Ronald The recent price increase is a direct cost added because of the crazy contract Howard got. I for one will not pay to feed hid ego or his pockets. And for the record normal FM is anything but HD. FM is good but definately not HI FI by any stretch of the imagination. Advertising...

Delphi Hits 5 Millionth Satellite Radio Milestone

How is that possible. Delphi made 5 million radios. Everyone else made how many. The total number of Sat Rads subscribers is like under 5 million. Where are the other 3 million or so radios sitting. If you wait there may be a sale or two.

    Life without Stern isn't pretty...

500 million for Howard Stern. Boy has the price of garbage gone up or what. Pure unadulterated crap. I find it hard to beleive adults would go out of their way to tune to a station that has him on it. But I guess a lot of people watched similar stuff on TV. Gives me a sense of what the world...

Breaking News: XM to raise rates but include extras for subscribers

I don't know about O & A but Howard Stern is garbage, always has been always will be. As for the price increase I beleive it is just the start. Now that they have enough customers to make some money and everyone has spent $$$$ to have the equipment the price will continue to rise every year...

Sony fanatic wants to buy all new gear, help me change his mind

My guess is he is a Sony fan for a reason. What is it to us if he likes Sony. I say let him buy them as it will make him happy. Having him change his mind will only get him the stuff you like. Some people like Chevs and some like Fords. Oh well. You make it sound like Sony is so horrible...

Recievers have major impact on sound?! i need help please.

Thats called phasing. To check if your phasing is correct, stand in front of the speakers and turn your balance all the way to one side. If the base gets louder when only one channel is on then you are out of phase. If the base is loudest when both speakers are playing your phasing is correct...
