    Civil War (2024)

I think that's where a lot of the feel that each lean strongly the opposite way (at least here in Canada). We, for obvious reasons, don't hear as much of the nuance about local politics in other countries as we do in our own. :)

    Civil War (2024)

Watched this tonight on IMAX. Sat in the fourth row. To put things into perspective in terms of movie theatre movies, the last one I saw was last Friday -- Monkey Man. I posted previously about that film, noting its visceral and brutal nature. Well, this movie was just as visceral, but...

Disney+ The Beatles: Get Back exclusively on Disney+

Just announced about 10m ago... Let It Be coming to Disney+ on May 8. Restored apparently.

    Monkey Man (2024)

Based on ManW's comment immediately above, when I watched this tonight, I sat about 2/3 of the way back. It was good advice. It was an incredibly visceral and brutal film. I almost felt it a bit of a callback to the revenge films that were quite popular in the early 2000s (ie, Oldboy and Lady...

Press Release WHV Press Release: Dune 2 (2024) (4k UHD Combo) (4k UHD SteelBook Combo) (Blu-ray)

Here in Canada, we MIGHT get a digital copy... and that will likely be on GoogleTV (aka YouTube) with no extras. Based on the ad copy I've seen so far, we're getting no digital copies with our discs this go around. So we will miss out on the majority of extras.

    Dune: Part Two (2024)

My local IMAX is doing daily "Dune marathons", showing the two back to back, then repeating (for two showings of each every day) for a week starting April 25th.

    The Killer (2023)

I finally managed to watch this one tonight. I enjoyed Fassbinder and the movie definitely rose and fell with him. The pacing was quite interesting in how slow and methodical it was, in tune with the narration. I did like (as noted above by titch) how he talked about perfection and made mistakes...

Why no more law & order season episode synopsis on wikipedia?

Looking at it on my laptop, all the brief episode summaries are there. For example, this is what's listed under episode 3 "The Brotherhood": When a prison gang puts out a contract on a Sing Sing corrections officer and his family, assigning the job to a newly released ex-con, the terrified...

    Amazon Prime Road House (2024)

Interestingly, I had no ads in my viewing. And I'm not paying for a no-ad level.

    Amazon Prime Road House (2024)

Watched this tonight. It's not the original Roadhouse. But... it's not too bad overall. McGregor is average, but fills the role well enough. Jake G is actually really good in his role. The fight scenes were interesting to watch. The plot was a bit predictable, but we're not here for the mystery.

    Paramount+ Halo (2022)

So, Halo season 2 wrapped this week with a pretty fun finale. I had a couple of weeks away where I was unable to watch, so the last couple of weeks have been a big catch-up for me. The finale introduced , then it , gave us some insight into , and then . Pretty packed, some nice set-up for...

    Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024)

Saw this tonight, I enjoyed it more than Josh and thought more jokes landed than he seems to. I only saw Afterlife for the first time earlier this week (somehow I completely missed it when it originally came out, and when I realized GB:FE was out this weekend figured that I should watch it in...

Press Release BVHE Press Release: The Abyss, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

My Aliens code actually worked. But theatrical edition only. In HD. Sigh. Also, Disney refusing to send me replacement codes for the two Avatar ones. Just telling me to wait until they resolve it with Cineplex. Sigh.

Press Release BVHE Press Release: The Abyss, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

Yup. A few times. "We have a deal with the Cineplex store and that is the only option at this time for redemption." Basically, every time I call or email, exactly the same response. Heck, I can't even redeem the two Avatar codes or the Abyss, as they're all broken. Avatar ones have been...

Press Release BVHE Press Release: The Abyss, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

Too bad our digital redemptions are HD only in the Cineplex store. And not the special editions. Sigh.

Press Release BVHE Press Release: The Abyss, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

Follow-up... I happened to be out by our Walmart today, so popped in, and they had Aliens... for the same price that the Abyss and True Lies were. Bought that, cancelled the Amazon order for that (which had updated to being ready for delivery March 29). There were maybe 5 copies of Aliens...

Press Release BVHE Press Release: The Abyss, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

My order of all three is delayed from Amazon (CA) with no date yet. I picked up The Abyss and True Lies this morning at Walmart for $10 less than the Amazon lowest price, so I cancelled those two. Nobody in town had Aliens (weirdly), so that's still waiting on Amazon.

    3D Top 30 Must Own 3D Blu-Ray Releases

One of my viewings of Dune (Part 1) in theatres was in 3D. I wasn't all that impressed as there wasn't much 3D at all during the course of the film. Unfortunately. I chose NOT to pick it up in 3D and stuck with the 4K version only.

Films in which the opening theme or song bleeds into/plays over the opening studio logo(s)

Trading Places (1985) starts with a Mozart piece over the studio titles that continues right into the main credits and indeed the actual opening of the film.

    Dune: Part Two (2024)

The open scenes were more open, yes, but any time it was closer in on the characters, I found it a much more claustrophobic feel in the sense that the face/shoulders took up the entire screen, whereas in the wider AR, there was space on either side of them to make it feel a bit more open. If...

    Dune: Part Two (2024)

I fully agree. I found the wider ratio worked far better to give me that epic feel. I, like some others, found the 1.90:1 ration a bit too claustrophobic at times. I'm disappointed that the closest 1.43:1/VAR is 2+h away from me. I've thrown three showings at it so far. A last minute spur of...

    Dune: Part Two (2024)

Dune Messiah had been visually executed and realized. About an hour an a half (give or take) back in 2003. It was actually quite well done (for a TV miniseries). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Herbert%27s_Children_of_Dune

    Paramount+ Halo (2022)

Situations that played out at the end of season 1 play into season 2. Though, if you're finding it too much of a slog, the recap at the start of season 2 MIGHT be enough to mostly catch you up.

    Paramount+ Halo (2022)

It's interesting, the BR and 4K releases of season 1 of this show have been discussed to death, but interestingly, there doesn't seem to be a discussion about the actual TV series as it is ongoing. Episode 4 of season 2 dropped tonight, and this season has stuck closer to game lore than the...

Entertaining movies based on comic books

Some other fun/entertaining movies based on comics include the Kingsman series (though they go off book REALLY fast), Wanted, and The Losers (which actually hits most of the beats in the original comic series) and has some pretty clever bits to boot. None of those are of the "superhero" bent at...

UHD Review A Few Words About About A few words about...™ - Conan the Barbarian & Conan the Destroyer -- in 4k UHD

Just got my set yesterday. Arrow's done a great job with the presentation as usual -- the book is going to be an interesting read. The scan of Conan the Barbarian is spectacular. I don't ever remember it looking this good.

    Argylle (2024)

Saw this today, really enjoyed it. Very colourful, some good clever humour, especially in the train fight scene. Sam Rockwell definitely stole the show in this one and had me hanging off his every word. I also really loved just how awful Henry Cavill's hair was. :)

General Discussion Streaming Frustrations, Part 2

So, picked up the two Avatar 4K December releases. Here in Canada, the code takes us to the Cineplex store from the Disney site. When you are sent to that site, it gives an error. Disney acknowledges this, but doesn't seem to care. You have to search for the film, then choose to redeem, then...
