Thanks Joe. Your reply added much insight. The wiring in our home is all brand new (new construction), so I shouldn't have to worry about that. I tried to calibrate the colors - based upon my eye (what I liked), but it is so difficult. I'll look into the Avia Guide to Home Theater or Video...
If that's the case, would there be any way of "shrinking" down the size of the picture to make it clearer? Can one add bars 360 degrees (at top, bottom and sides). As it is, the picture is horrible.
I took delivery and setup a 61" DLP (Samsung) today. I have an HD cable box and am running HDMI to the new set. I set the cable box to work with formats 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480 wide (as instructed by Cablevision) The problem I have is when I watch stations that are non-HD (ie, sports...
I am purchasing an entertainment center (wood cabinets) - to hold our TV (DLP) and other equipment (Denon 2807 receiver, Onkyo AMP, Cable Box - HD, DVD player and a power unit). The cabinets have wood doors and the equipment goes behind them on shelves. I am looking to use a universal remote...
Just got a call from the local Paradigm dealer who states that the Studio series v4.0 is now available - and he can get them within 2 weeks. Can anyone verify this - as from what I hear they won't be out til after early 2007.
I have a 20 ft x 27 ft room I am purchasing: Ascend Acoustics 340 center channel plus 340 right and left (main) speakers. Will have 7.1 surround sound (mostly for Home Theater - some music as well) Question is which sub woofer to get: Choices: (1) SVS PB12NSD (2) HSU VTF3...
Have a family room that's 20 ft x 27 ft x 9 ft ceiling- Putting in 7.1 surround sound for Home Theater (mostly) and music. For the fronts, I'm going with Ascend Acoustics CMT340SE (left and right) and CMT340SECC (center channel). I'm going to use an SVS 12 (PB12NSD or SB12Plus). I have to use...
Budget is around $150-$175 per speaker (so x4). I called Ascend Acoustics - they recommended Sonance. I spent alot of time going thru the A/V forums - where a few have recommended Proficient speakers (all in ceiling). Ascend said that would also be a good match. So, was trying to find the most...
I'm interested in the Ascend 340SE for front pair and center channel. Can anyone recommend "in ceiling" (round) speakers that I can use for the sides and rear (7.1). They must be in ceiling (round) - do to WAF.

Thanks Alon. I've put in a call back to my local A/V dealer to see that he can get them. He's a Paradigm authorized dealer - not sure why he didn't know that v4.0 was out.
where did you hear about the Paradigm Studio Series coming out with v4.0. I asked about this in a post last month - nobody could verify it. I had e-mail contact with Paradigm who denied it as well - saying only v3.0 is available and could not say when/where v4.0 would be out.
Good thought - but I don't think he's going to get any cheaper - unless Paradigm tries clearing them out. I'm getting discounted already. I don't think the local dealers here stock any of them. They order from the company once an order is placed with them.
I was in the A/V store today - ready to purchase Paradigm Reference v3.0 (1) cc570, (2) Studio 60's, (3) SA15's or possibly CS60R's for surround sound. I had heard thru the grapevine that v4.0 was coming out. I then saw the catalog for the Reference Series v4.0 in the store. I asked the...
The following is coming from a "rookie" who knows little about A/V setups - looking for help with selecting an Amp. Basically, I have 7 pairs of speakers (living room, dining room, kitchen, breakfast room, patio, plus 2 pairs in outside garden). I'm running background music to all of the...
Polling the audience. If I were to choose medium priced outdoor "rock speakers" (for background music coming from garden) - which brand/model would you choose? (already knowing that sound quality will be nowhere as good)
For a family room - need speaker advice PLEASE. Up front - going with Paradigm Studio 40's along with Paradigm cc570 Will have a Velodyne or SVS Sub-woofer. Need help with the surrounds (will be 7.1) - please note that 2 side and 2 back speakers will be in ceiling (sides and rear) Need...
Family Room - approx 20 x 25 (ft) - wood floors. Going with a Denon AVR2807 Receiver. Up front, going to use Paradigm Reference Studio Series - probably cc470 and either Studio 20's or 40's. Questions: (1) would an SVS -PB12 SubWoofer be OK or HSU similar? (2) for the surround sound I need to...
the surrounds were designed and placed by an AV person - so I'm sure the placement is OK. Just trying to decide the speakers that would fit in with the budget.
I am looking for speaker advice/recommendation. Newly constructed home - have a family room that's 25 ft x 22 ft x 9 foot ceilings with wood (oak) floor. I have prewired so that I'll have 3 speakers center and 2 sides) by the entertainment/audio unit and then have 2 ceiling over sitting area...
Building a new home (walls open). Running 12-4 and 14-4 wire for speakers as well as coaxial cable in the walls. I have always been used to seeing these terminate on walls with a wall plate/jack. The Audio/Visual guy feels that it's better to run the wire straight thru the wall - using a plate...
After all the helpful advice on setting up a family room 7.1 speaker system, I've decided to go with the Paradigm Reference (Studio) Series. I went to an authorized Paradigm dealer - who basically gave me the list price, then took off a percentage (I am purchasing a center, 2 bookshelf (40's)...
Just an update: So far, looked at the Paradigm Studio (Reference Series) - really liked the 40's and will probably add an SVS-10 SubWoofer. Just have to firm up the 4 surround speakers (everything seems so large to put on walls - wife factor here) - looking for something right. Prefer to stay...
(Not quite sure if this is the correct place to post this. If anyone advises, I'll put elsewhere within the forum.) We are building a home gym and I'm looking to install a wireless transmitter - from the HDTV's and receiver to a wireless receiver which attaches to each of the following; (1)...
I am the original poster of the message. I think I made a silly error when I mentioned a $1,200 budget. I was really throwing out a number that I thought would suffice - little did I know. I'm shelling out $1,000 on a reciever, $5,000 on the HDTV, $ thousands on a multizone, multimedia system -...
Thank you for your replies, Brent and Jim. I went around looking today - and as you said, others agree that the price I was considering was low and the size of the speakers were small. We're redoing an entire home, so the speaker budget just went up (as did everything in the home), and after...
