Rotel RB-1080 power amp keeps blowing fuses, I have B&W Matrix 802 Series 3 Speakers

I'd check out club rotel... From what i've read, it sounds like the fuse blows if the 1080 is hooked up with the trigger. I'm not totally sure, but post a thread there and I'm sure you'd get your answer (and then some :)) Christian

    Should I wait for HD-DVD?

I'm kind of in the same boat as you... I haven't really been keeping up with the developments with the next-gen stuff as of late but I decided to take the dive when hd-dvd/BD stuff becomes easily/widely available at my local blockbuster. Hopefully by then the format war (if any) will have...

Sorry, I didn't look at your collection but I have recommendations none the less :) I dont think I saw: Blackhawk Down (superbit) - DTS - very good especially the helicopter ride(s) Underworld (superbit) - DTS - has great surround effects Day After Tomorrow - DTS track yet again. Great...

Is the Bang & Olufsen BeoLab 5 the best speaker made today?

I had the chance to listen to the Beolab 5's once... Very impressive - to me at least :) LOTR:Two Towers was freighteningly real and in-room bass response was utterly flat - wow.

    mp3 connecting to receiver

I dont think I understand why you would need a dedicated machine to run iTunes... Unless there are some major proximity issues, there should be no need to use a dedicated comp to stream only music.

    mp3 connecting to receiver

I just hook my up my iPod to my receiver through the line-out on the iPod's dock. Works fine. Your other option if you want to stream music is you could get the Apple Airport Express unit (if you use iTunes of course).

    $2000 for a large room...

You could probably pick up a very nice ascend acoustics speaker arrangement, a HSU or SVS sub, and a HK, Pioeer, Onkyo, or Yamaha receiver for ~2k +/- a few bucks. I would bet it's better than any HTIB... Paradigm does make some very nice stuff though. Good luck!!

Any major/noticeable differences for receiver from $500 and up?

Well put albert - nice. Personally, I can hear the difference between receivers in different price brackets. Kinda sucks cause upgraditis just kills your bank account. More power to you if it doesn't make an audible difference :)

    Upgrading Receiver...What to buy?

The onkyo and denon you mentioned are excellent receivers. The onk I believe is also a 7.1 receiver... Should you buy a receiver that is THX certified? Well, it's not necessary. I have the onk nr801 (THX Cert) and although it can play loud and clean I have found the THX post-processing has...

First time poster, some very basic questions:

Chuck is right with what he said. Also, Bose = for price/performance and many seem to agree. Also, negative on the all-in-one. It's nice b/c it's all-in-one, but come upgrade time (or worse, upgraditis), you have to can the entire thing. This could cause problems. Again, like...

Help choosing a universal remote for Amp and other units

HTM is good. My girlfriend has a Harmony 659 that she programmed all by herself in less than an hour - macros and all. She's tech savvy but it still says something about the simplicity of its setup. The thing works great too.

$2000 or less home theatre surround sound system

All these guys have excellent advice. Just go out and listen/educate yourself. Recommendations? Ascend Acoustics get awesome reviews from owners and wont break the bank. That Pioneer 1014 is a steal for what it can do. HK and Denon are options as well. Velo, SVS, HSU all make very good subs...

    SVS DSP subs soon?? maybe??

Interesting stuff. I wasn't aware the unit in the rocket sub could be purchased seperately... I did know about the sing PEQ on the svs but I was looking for something more along the automatic lines. Curtis - yeah, that's the press release. Kind of vague but nevertheless, it could be...

    SVS DSP subs soon?? maybe??

Anybody know of the possiblity of svs making/releasing a dsp powered sub? Something along the lines of the axiom ep500/600? I also heard that HSU is working on such a project. Or perhaps a single band PEQ such as on the rocket UFW-10. Would be awesome....

Receiver sounds like your best bet. Like john said, speakers will make a bigger improvement but updating the source of sound output will also make a big difference

    Ready for an external amp...

I had the chance to listen to a rotel/paradigm reference combo a couple of times...wow :) There is probably better and maybe better for less but from what i heard, it was pretty damn nice. Same amp as you have listed only the speakers were the 60's. ROTEL is my vote Have fun

Just bought the Onkyo TX-SR702, not sure if I should take it back

I've got the 801 and although it's older than your 702 it's pretty much the same thing, plus or minus a couple of things. I've got some polk rti100's hooked up to them and even tried by buddy's rti150's... The thing can play pretty loud and clear. See if the paradigm dealer will let you...

    $500 - $1000 5.1 speaker system

I recently helped a buddy of mine put a system together consisting of jbl e30's for fronts, ec35, and e10's for surrounds along with a svs pb10. To get to the point, it's pretty intense for they kind of money all that stuff cost him - peanuts. It's also in a fairly oddly shaped room that is open...

    Onkyo vs. Denon?

I've had two Onkyo receivers over the past few years (600 and 801) and they have been nothing but trouble-free and sound great. Friends have various Denon's and they have had no problems either. Different sound characteristics from each receiver however - Denon seems to bit warmer whereas the...

    Need a 2nd Receiver

You could look into an Onkyo or Denon. I've got an onk nr-801, and while not a $300-$500 receiver, it does sound very nice and the 'lower end' onks sound much the same with hardly a difference. Look at a sr-602. It has DD, DTS/ES and all the usual suspects as well as zone 2. Denon also has their...

    HDTV advice, new screen ???

I've got last years sony hs510 34" model and I love it. The XBR is a pretty amazing set once you fiddle with the settings on it - it would be hard to beat unless you bought a lower priced set and had it professionally calibrated. That said, mine is not professionally calibrated but is with Avia...

HK AVR-635 or a Panny Digital?

My vote is for the H/K. Totally different league than the Panny. Some friends of mine have H/K products and they sound fantastic. To me, the panny seems more like a HTIB setup when compared to the 635. Also, not to get off-track... MikeyGA, how do you like your swans? Same with the svs? I'm...

    Onkyo TXNR801 THX Select 7.1

I'm with John. THX merely extrapolates a 5.1 signal putting it into 7.1. I've messed with it on my 801 (set up for 7.1) and results have varied with different movies depending on the encoded track (DD/DTS). For some reason, and it may be my imagination, was that THX post-processing on a THX...
