HK AVR 130 does not have pre-outs for a power amp. Is it possible to use the tape out? or the coax audio out? Does it make any sense to set up a power amp just for the front main speakers? The speakers I have are Athena AS F2.2. I have the rest of the AS series for center and surrounds but...
They had some technical difficulties and trouble shipping, but they eventually got it out two weeks after the order. It arrived in 6 days though!! WOW! I have to say that their telephone service was excellent. Always someone there to answer my questions, and they were a pleasure to deal with...
I might just use a cheap video cable with the yellow RCA connector. Or I might just buy a "subwoofer" cable. I found this one (link below) at cablesforless. Is gold plating really important? This doesn't appear to have it. http://www.cablesforless.com/index.a...OD&ProdID=2718
I'm getting close to owning my first subwoofer and need to buy a cable to connect it. What things should I consider when buying a cable? i.e. does length of cable affect performance? What is a subwoofer cable? Could I just use a regular coax audio cable that I use for my dvd player? Any...
A question for all the fellow Canadians? What has your cross border Audio Advisor purchase been like? I'm thinking of buying an Athena AS-P6000 subwoofer from www.audioadvisor.com for $300US. I'm prepared to pay approx 30% extra for taxes and duties, but is there anything else I should...
I've currently got the center and surrounds set to small with the crossover at 60hz. That's what their specs are. I do find that I get more bass with the center set to small, but I find that the soundstage is more...matched? seamless? dispersed? Not sure how to describe it, but it sounds more...
I do not have a sub. Why do you say small? When I set it to small, I can also set the cross over to 60hz. Do you think I should set it to 80hz instead since some speakers claim ranges, but don't actually go as low as they claim? Does all this....large, small, 60, 80 really make much...
Should I set my center to "small" or "large"? I can't decide. Do I need to worry about damaging my center if set to large? Note it is brand new, and not broken in. The Frequency is 60hz - 20Khz Here's what I have: Center - Athena AS-C1.2 Fronts - Athena AS-F2.2 - set to large Rears -...
To answer questions above... My receiver does not have separate settings for DD and DTS. I'm certain of this. I don't have an SPL so I can't provide readings. Sorry. I calibrated with test tones, and general guessing. Things are arranged pretty symetrical, so it wasn't hard. Night mode...
I've had the HK 130 for almost 2 years and haven't had any problems. I am having an issue where my center channel is very quiet with DTS, but I think that's an issue with my DVD player.
To answer questions above.... The speakers are corrected properly. Verified. I have not noticed this with other sound formats. I doubt it is the HK, but I won't know until I switch the APEX. I guess nobody else has noticed this problem in their systems?
Everytime I watch a movie in DTS I find that the quiet scenes are too quiet, and the loud scenes are too loud. So if I set a volume to adequately hear the dialogue, the action scenes will be too loud. I'm constantly adjusting the volume between scenes. Is this normal for DTS? So I just have to...
Well I do have to say that the difference I thought I heard was in the vocals. Just not as clear. Overall (highs and lows), I found the sound was just a little muddy if that makes sense.
I just received my $3 "Premium RCA cables" from Monoprice and noticed that they don't sound as good as my old skimpy cheapo RCAs. Anyway, this is what it says on the cable. Can anyone tell me if these are ideal for 2 channel audio? Maybe there's too much resistance? RG-59/U 75 OHM COAXIAL...
So far the Athenas are a great speakers for the price. Well worth it. The range is excellent, they have a nice warm sound, and a slight brightness that I enjoy. They are extremely efficient compared to my old Technics, but that's not even a fair comparison. Only critical thing so far is that...
I'm fairly sure my HK receiver doesn't have A/B speaker settings. Didn't even think of it but it would have been perfect. Anyway, sounds like it will be ok. for a quick test. Then I plan on hooking up the olds fully for a while and then going back to the Athenas. I have already noticed the...
I want to do some quick comparisons in two channel stereo mode. I just bought new speakers and want to compare them to my old ones. I wonder if there's any danger in having a new speaker on one side L, and an old speaker on the other R, and then switching balance back and forth to compare. Could...
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Impulsive. I get a mild sniff of something I might want and I quickly turn it into something I need, and before I know it, I can't do without it. As went the way with my tv, my receiver, and now my speakers. And to make matters worse :) I went...
I listened to the Klipsch F-1s today at Best Buy. I wasn't thrilled, but the testing environment was terrible. I kept thinking of bringing them home to test, but I didn't. I'm thinking about the Athena AS-F2.2 now. It has pretty good reviews and I think it's more of what I'm looking for in...
I'd prefer to just get 2 speakers (stereo) for now due to lack of money. My end goal is to have 5.1, but I know money will get even tighter later since I'm getting married, buying house, etc. That's why I want to stay within mainstream brands. They're easier to pick up used too. However...
I have a Harmon Kardon AVR 130 receiver that states 50W per channel (2 channel) and 45W per channel (5 channel). I'd like to buy some floorstanding speakers, but don't know what to get. I've been reading reviews and am going in circles. I'm willing to spend around $800 CAD, but the catch...
