    HD Switchbox recommendations?

I bought a Phillips brand switchbox from Walmart that has Component Inputs but as I read in another post, it may not be suitable for 1080i signal. What is the cheapest alternative for a good enough switchbox? I would like 4 Component inputs at the very least.

Help, Record player won't reach receiver...

WTF, how did I not test the switch earlier. Yeah it was supposed to be on Line In rather than Phono In for some reason. It works fine and I successfully ripped the new Springsteen folk record.

Help, Record player won't reach receiver...

The new player has a switch to go from line to phono. The top of the player has a jack to hook a tape player to if I wanted to use that through USB in recording to the computer. It is set on phono. That's why I don't think I need the preamp plus the fact it worked on a tv, just was not loud at...

Help, Record player won't reach receiver...

I haven't tested it out more yet since I just got back from camping. My old record player had an aux port that i stuck rca cables in and then connected it to the receiver in the md/tape input. when i switched players, I took nothing out of the receiver and just took the wires out of the old...

Help, Record player won't reach receiver...

Ok I got a new record player that has Red/White plugs that are hard wired in and plug into my receiver. My old record player had just phono outputs so I used a long Red/White cable. I bought a Dual Phono plug Coupler as what I figured would be an extension piece in a sense to connect the 2...

    Bought a USB Turntable

I am doing it for recording onto my computer and then CD burning. I have a lot of records that are not available or in print on CD and I'd like to put them in my car via CD. I also don't want to wear out my records too much. They're more for when I have visitors but rather than downloading mp3s...

    Bought a USB Turntable

I just picked the Ion ITTUSB Turntable and tried it out on my friend's computer. Seems to work fine but I'd like to know what better cartridges would work with it. I saw one on Amazon called Shure M97xE High-Performance Magnetic Phono Cartridge. It got great reviews and it's not breaking my...

    AM Antenna connection question.

Yeah, I have it on a swivel chair next to me so I can easily move it around. i didn't know if the antenna would help since I could, theoretically if long enough, put it next to the window.... or even up the house or something. I'm pretty much trying to DX without buying any expensive equipment...

    AM Antenna connection question.

I own an old Sony ICF 9740W tabletop radio(which is still actually on amazon) and it has external FM radio 2 screws. Would I get any improved reception for AM if I hook up an AM antenna to this port? There's nothing stated one way or the other in any reviews I've read.

Please Help - updating HT and confused on setup

One more problem. Ps2 won't work. I tried plugging the component cables into the receiver and it seemed to work but the screen overlaps itself. It looks so weird. I assume it must be because my tv only does 480 and 1080i, no 720p which is what ps2 can do. I figured they could both do 480 though...

Please Help - updating HT and confused on setup

Ok, I actually didn't even use S Video before, it was actually just regular old Composite. The DVD Player is Progressive Scan too so that's even better than plain old Component over 480i? The one hookup missing is the Cable Wire. I assume that just goes into the Cable Box right?

Please Help - updating HT and confused on setup

If I don't have component running from the Receiver to the TV, how will the DVD Player be useful with component? I doubt mine upscales but I want a nice sharp picture and don't know if Component is a must with regards to that.

Please Help - updating HT and confused on setup

I don't mind the lack of 6.1 if I have 5.1 still possible with the analog inputs. I have my couch against the back wall anyways.

Please Help - updating HT and confused on setup

Awesome, that really helps me out. How is your solution different to the previous post Joseph? Both ways, it seems that the HD Box out to TV would be Component right? I'd like to save on cable costs when I can since I don't have any Component Cables yet and I'm gonna run out of money. One...

    Need a cheap decent HDTV

I also saw a Best Buy brand Insignia one for much cheaper(349 bucks). It's only 26 inch but it's so much cheaper. IS-TV040927 is the model. I'm kinda weary about it. Anyone have luck with the brand?

    Need a cheap decent HDTV

Thanks for the link but I'm a stickler for buying things brand new... except video game cartridges but I'm afraid of having a problem with a refurb. I don't know if I should go with the Philips or the Zenith. The plus on the Zenith is that the place near my house that can order it includes...

    Need a cheap decent HDTV

I don't have a definitive budget now but I definitely need it to be well under 1000. I want HD Built In and for it to be about 30 inches Widescreen since the tv I currently have is 27 inches Full Screen. I saw the Philips 30PW9100D for 799.99 and that seems good but I don't know if it is worth...

My 1990 27inch TV just went, looking to jump into HD

I'd rather get a 4:3 HDTV if they exist. I prefer bars on the top to bars on the side. Also I'd want it to be viewable from any angle and not get really dark if you are diagonal to it since the Lay-Z Boys are not at a direct front angle.

My 1990 27inch TV just went, looking to jump into HD

I'm really interested in finally jumping into HD now that the TV is going in my cellar(where all my home theater stuff is). I don't want to spend a whole lot, so no Plasma or LCD for me but I believe there are Tube Sets that do HD. I was hoping there would be something in the 500-600 dollar...

Can't get my Pioneer 578 hooked up right

Argh I just found out it's 100 dollars for these cables. That's absurd, the player was $150. Now I'm reading that any RCA cables will work fine. Is this true? That should end up being cheaper than $100

Can't get my Pioneer 578 hooked up right

Thanks guys, so I guess I might as well keep all the stuff hooked up as is and then add that 6 channel cable. If I find problems with the Center Speaker thing, I'll have to buy one but I hope I don't because the only place I can put the Pioneer is on top of the TV and I don't want a speaker up...

Can't get my Pioneer 578 hooked up right

Ok, I have the yellow wire from the Pioneer 578 to my VCR(can't hook it to TV so I use the VCR as an RF Modulator), the red and white to the sacd part of the receiver, and an optical wire going from the 578 to the receiver. Now I'm told I need the 5.1 channel analog plugs. My Sony STR-DE 597...

Can't get my Pioneer 578 hooked up right

I can't just use optical cable for that instead? Do I need everything I have plugged in plus that other analog connection or did I plug in something not needed out of the composite cable and optical cable. The Circuit City guy seemed to know what he was talking about.

Can't get my Pioneer 578 hooked up right

DVD's work fine with the picture and surround sound. I tested it with King of the Hill Season 3, great choice to test my audiophilic ears eh? But anyways, whenever I play an SACD, it does not work. No sound comes out at all from any channel. I'm using Michael McDonald - Motown and Rolling Stones...

Can't get turntable to work with my receiver

Although this may not help, I have an 80's Fisher record player/tape deck and I connected Red/White Audio wires from the Auxillary ports to the receiver in the SACD input. Another input might work too.

Can't get my surrounds to do anything.

Ok I got it. I did the Test Tone thing and did get some sound so I went into the level menu and messed around to make it audible but not overpowering. The only thing I've tested it with was the Braves game yesterday which was pretty cool but once I get an SACD player, I can play my Rolling...

Can't get my surrounds to do anything.

Aha!! I bet that is it, I didn't do anything with 5C0, I just had set the surrounds to yes. Thank you, I'll try it in the morning since it's 12:40 am here now.

Can't get my surrounds to do anything.

Under Speaker A I have all 4 speakers in the right spots like the manual said so I think it is wired correctly. I gotta get to work so if there's something I'm still missing, please let me know. I figure all the speaker A stuff is right. The Fronts work fine.
