Looking for some advice: Avalanche 15 and Rythmik LT Amp

In that case, will the Rhythmik amp be enough at 350W? I'm kind of surprised noone else has any feedback on setting up an LT subwoofer :)

Looking for some advice: Avalanche 15 and Rythmik LT Amp

I have been looking for a while, and am interested in building a sealed sub using the new Avalanche 15. To improve performance, I'm thinking of using an amp like the Rythmik 350 that has a built in LT circuit. My problem is this, when I model the LT circuit in WinISD Pro Alpha, I rapidly exceed...

    Marble or granite for enclosures?

Has anyone ever built an enclosure out of marble or granite? I was wondering how difficult it is to work with. I am considering building an enclosure from MDF, and then facing it with some granite or marble tiles. I made a few inquiries about building the enclosure entirely out of granite or...

    Video/Audio Signal Distribution Via 802.11g?

Yeah, basically, real time video is highly intollerant of drops (meaning, packets that are lost/corrupted/etc.). Drops = lost images, because you can't go back after the fact and get back what you lost (you've already passed the scene). It's a variable bit rate (VBR) service because the data...

    Video/Audio Signal Distribution Via 802.11g?

Yes, you can get an mpeg encoder card for a computer and do it. I am considering doing that with a Nano-ITX motherboard when they are available. The QoS probably isn't an issue with those data stream sizes, but you are going to want to implement priority queues if you have people actually using...

Are large underhung designs superior ro xbl^2?

I'd like to see that video...where is it located? I didn't see it in the installs area. Thanks, Rob

    Need help with new sub

Personally, I'd just add a touch of eq down low. It will go a long way, and a BFD just isn't expensive. Add that to the IB and voila, instant happiness.

Looking to build a sub for a friend

If you can swing the size, I'd do one of the new Avalanche 18's with a nice big amp. It can move 6.5L of air (!). You'll hardly need any eq with a decent sealed enclosure...you may have to eq down even.

OMG Brian, what is that? It looks kind of like the Eclipse Ti....check some of the videos in my thread on it in the last two days.

Hey, New CO & Woofs /XBL^2/ Very Interesting Drivers!

Out of curiosity, what are these 40+mm excursion subs that are going to be released? ATM I am trying to decide if the extra cash for the Tumult is worth the smaller box size and higher amp requirements. I don't think it is. If the extra cash brought a 15" that charted like the Avalanche 18...

Hey, New CO & Woofs /XBL^2/ Very Interesting Drivers!

Give up just a bit of low end extension and put the 18" into a 500L sealed Bessel arrangement with a Qtc of .577 and see what you think. It's got the best phase numbers of any driver I've modeled with decent extension below 20hz, and is down only -15.5db at 10hz...with a group delay of 11ms...

    Going for a Paradigm Servo-15 over PC-Ultra

I mean, they don't just have a reputation for being more accurate, they _are_ more accurate. Both phase and group delays greatly favor sealed enclosures. You might consider a low Q (large)sealed enclosure with something like a Tumult, and a good eq and stout amp. It should price similarly and...

    Auto Sub EQ

Looks like the DSP8024 has been replaced with the DEQ2496. There is also a 50 dollar rebate going until Jan 31, 2005 on it. Any advantages or disadvantages to using one instead of the BFD? Is it just cost?

thought of an idea for a subwoofer enclosure

For that matter, why not use a sphere? I've found hollow metal spheres online for 200 or less up to about 24". With a driver with small enough box requirements, it would be pretty amazing. You'd need a bit of calc 3 to figure out the resulting volume with the driver installed, but otherwise it's...

Hey, New CO & Woofs /XBL^2/ Very Interesting Drivers!

Chad, Speaking of efficiency, what's the efficiency of the Avalanche drivers? Also, is there any chance of having larger pics that you see when you click on the smaller ones on the page? I'd like to see the drivers up close and internet like ;) Great site, btw...nice use of font sizes...

Hey, New CO & Woofs /XBL^2/ Very Interesting Drivers!

Holy Moley. The Avalanche 18 in a 250L sealed enclosure is a pure monster. I mean, it's only down 7db at 20hz and down 12db at 14.5!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that's with a _peak_ group delay of 9.37ms at 20hz. I'm thinking about one in a smaller 200L enclosure. Wish I could find room for the 700L...

    Subwoofer for dorm room

The one great advantage to being in the dorms is that they typically have a very solid concrete construction which is very conducive to keeping complaints from the neighbors to a minimum :). I work for UF Housing, and live in an on-campus apartment. I've never had a complaint, and I certainly...

DIY Subwoofer question...help me understand the Tumult vs. DPL-12

DIY Subwoofer question...help me understand the Tumult vs. DPL-12

I'd sure like to hear them, actually. I'm kind of an amp junky...I bought my pass based on some discussions I had with nelson pass about the topology, and I've come to appreciate the amp very much as the unheralded hero of HT. It's amazing what a difference a good amp can make. I've been told...

DIY Subwoofer question...help me understand the Tumult vs. DPL-12

michael.e: When you speak of modeling in 2pi vs. .5pi, what does that mean exactly? I'm a mathematician, so I'll understand if you want to get obtuse :) Andrew: What is the BFD? Sorry if this is obvious..googling for BFD brings up some interesting hits that don't appear to be relevant...

DIY Subwoofer question...help me understand the Tumult vs. DPL-12

Thanks for the advice, dan! Looks like virtually the same curve as above with a much smaller enclosure. I'm a bit confused about using EQ to get extension out of a sealed enclosure...is there a specific type of EQ that works best for this kind of application? Up until this point, I...

DIY Subwoofer question...help me understand the Tumult vs. DPL-12

Ok, I just did some replots, tuning the Tumult lower and in a larger enclosure. Blue is the same DPL12 IB config above Green is the Tumult, tuned to 13.5 Hz, 200L box, 3 vents, .068m in diameter, .870m long Gain Curves: http://members7.clubphoto.com/_cgi-b...46-408e&trans= SPL...

DIY Subwoofer question...help me understand the Tumult vs. DPL-12

Jason, I actually stumbled onto the DPL-12, and checking its parameters, it looks like it was a good thing to investigate. My interest is fostered by the fact that it appears to go deeper than the Tumult, and that for the price, I can use a pair of them isobarically in a manageable tube size to...

DIY Subwoofer question...help me understand the Tumult vs. DPL-12

I wanted to add that in an isobaric pair, the specs for the blue line box become: 110L, Tuned to 13.35Hz, two ports, .068m in diameter, 1.041m long...vent mach would be .06. I am thinking I should be able to fit those in the cylinder in a gentle-slope double helix configuration. Drivers would...

DIY Subwoofer question...help me understand the Tumult vs. DPL-12

Thanks for all the feedback guys! What I've been considering is a tube with an isobaric pair of DPL-12's in one end, and a pair of 28.81" long 3.22" ports. WinISD says this puts the Vent mach at .08. Hosting server looks to be back up...here are the four graphs I am talking about above...

DIY Subwoofer question...help me understand the Tumult vs. DPL-12

Ok, here are four configurations I've been working with in WinISD. The two drivers being compared are the Adire DPL-12 and the Tumult. I've double checked the parameters, and I can't really believe what I am seeing. Blue: Vented DPL-12, 220.5L, tuned to 13.35 HZ Green: Vented Tumult, 120L...
