What are your most wanted abandoned series?

I was wondering why no one had mentioned St. Elsewhere ... until your post, Doug. You nailed all three of the ones I want: Hill Street Blues St. Elsewhere Night Gallery FOX makes me SOOOOO angry sometimes. How could they abandon HSB and SE? Oh yeah... I'll add Larry Sanders and...

Any difference between The Office (UK version) Region 1 & 2 DVD's?

I have the UK versions of the original releases (Season 1, Season 2, and the Special). I am 99% sure that the Region 1 discs are the same, with the same bonus content. BTW, the bonus stuff is excellent on all three sets.

Prime Suspect - The Final Act?

When I discovered the PS6 was full frame in North America, I decided to purchase the anamorphic version from the UK. So much better! FYI, The Final Act is already out in the UK, and amazon.co.uk has it for 8.99 pounds, which translates to about $17.50 US. Yes, you pay shipping, but it's not...

Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

I called and got a confirmation number on either the first or second day the program was announced, and I still haven't received the mailer. I'm in Canada.

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

Gord - my pre-order on amazon.ca shipped on 12/13 and arrived today. But I DID notice the backlit posters in transit shelters here in Toronto now have a sticker over the old date. They originally said "available Dec 12", and they now say "available Dec 19". You can clearly see the sticker with...

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

Strange. In Canada, this had a release date of Dec 12, not Dec 5 -- at least according to amazon.ca. I called them and they verified that it wouldn't be released here til Dec 12. I pre-ordered it quite awhile ago, and my order finally shipped today from amazon.ca and will hopefully arrive...

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

Ah... but there IS one image of him on the web, although it's from 2005 and he's a fair bit older. At least it sure LOOKS like the same Don Dolan. It's from an appearance he did in a play for Oregon Stageworks. Here's the link: http://www.oregonstageworks.org/gall...g2_itemId=1069

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

Not sure who it is, but perhaps this will help? There are a few actors listed for that episode without character names - so they may or may not be who you're looking for... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0707968/fullcredits

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

http://www.epguides.com/StElsewhere/season3.shtml#ep068 Final episode of Season 3, titled - appropriately enough - "Cheers". In addition to Carla and Norm (mentioned in Tony's link) it also featured Cliff. But Carla was the focus.

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

Yes, the Cheers / St. Elsewhere crossover was on a later season episode of St. Elsewhere. It was a season closer (perhaps season 3?) and Westphall announced to Craig and Auschlander that he was going to quit. Re: the featurettes. Glad to have them - the Tim Robbins one was fantastic. He seems...

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

Nice catches, Jeff. I got my Season 1 set today and when I got home tonight I did an A-B of the pilot episode with my syndicated version. I was surprised to discover that my syndicated ep was 100% intact but definitely time compressed. I just came on here to post my findings, but you beat me to...

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

I ordered it a few weeks ago from amazon.com and it arrived this morning. $27.99 US + $2.50 shipping (I ordered a bunch of stuff on one order, so the shipping was split between them). No tax for Canadians. Total $30.49 US = $34.64 CDN. By comparison: $39.99 CDN at HMV + 14% tax = $45.59...

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

My "syndicated" version is also from our local PBS station, but I think it must have been cut slightly, given the running time of 46 minutes. The PBS version doesn't have the opening "Tonight on St. Elsewhere" preview, which runs :50 seconds on the DVD version of the "Samuels.." episode. If I...

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

OK, I checked my syndicated version of "Samuels and the Kid", It seemed like a good one to compare, since Kevin has already discovered some changes on the DVD version. Here's the verdict: the syndicated version DOES have the original music: "More Than A Feeling". However, the song is mixed...

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

I get the impression that they're the original network versions (in terms of length) but with music replacement where necessary. The syndicated versions that I have on tape run between 46:30 and 47:30 per episode (give or take a few seconds). Very little seemed to be cut from the syndicated...

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

That's a real shame. I have the syndicated episodes on tape, but I haven't watched them in ages. I recall that Heartbreaker is still in the Dreams episode, but can't recall if it was Page or a sound-alike. When you say it was replaced by a generic guitar player, did he still play the...

Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

See my previous post re: Canada. As for the exchange phone number staying live: given the massive number of copies that Warner likely shipped, I'd be confident that the exchange program will be up and running for quite some time... probably as long as there are still defective copies at...

Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, etc. Exchange Number and info

Apparently yes it does. The CDN product is identical to the US product. In fact, the Ultimate package I got from amazon.ca has the sticker on the outside for the 5 free posters, although the flyer inside states that the offer is only good in the USA. I called the toll free # and went through...

Where is "Hill Street Blues" & "St Elsewhere"???!!!

Here in Canada, neither bestbuy.ca nor futureshop.ca (our other big chain) have St. Elsewhere in their database. (LOL - when you do a search for St. Elsewhere at Future Shop, you get "The White Shadow" because the description mentions that it was "created by Bruce Paltrow of St. Elsewhere"!)...

Where is Mary Tyler Moore Season 5?

Agreed. I thought you were stating that the format in which the song was ORIGINALLY used would affect its value when used elsewhere. (In a sense, this is true: the intrinsic value of the original song will certainly affect the fee you'll pay to license it. For example: Springsteen's "Born to...

Where is Mary Tyler Moore Season 5?

I know it's not what you're implying, but your post made me think of the oft-repeated statement that if you use fewer than "x" number of notes of a song, you don't have to pay royalties. This is an urban myth. More often than not, if it ends up in court, it comes down to whether or not the...

Where is Mary Tyler Moore Season 5?

A song is a song... is a song ;-) The format for which is was written (play, movie, tv show, album/cd) doesn't affect its copyright. Here's a site with some good info. Click on the "articles / Q&A" link. http://www.copyrightmv.com/ John has been doing this for a very long time and...

    Hill Street Blues abandoned?

Yeah, I don't know if the Brit answer was polite, as much as it was apologetic. Which is a Brit thing, too. We Canadians got the "apology gene", too -- especially those of us who came from good UK stock. Reminds me of a joke that made the rounds of Canadian professional musicians in the...

    Hill Street Blues abandoned?

It's a different company doing the releases in the UK (Channel 4, I believe), so it's possible. But be careful (out there!)... I've read that some of the episodes on their first two season releases were edited. I think they may have been the syndicated versions.

Who ever thought this would ever be done?

There have been approx 5000 episodes of Corrie to date. That's approx 2000 hours (at 24 mins. per episode on average; there were far fewer commercials in the 1960s...). At 6 hours per disc, we're looking at a 300+ disc box set! And you know what? I bet it'd sell. ------- Failing...
