A lot of my research said that sand was not the way to go. What I was told to do, and did, was use fiberglass insulation 2-3 times the normal amount. My stage is 5 1/2" high and I stuffed it with 12" of insulation. Sure is a lot less messy and time consuming. And it works great! David
Are you using Envirotex-lite as you resin? This stuff works great and I have used it around/over latex paint, white glue and various other materials with no adverse affects. David

Chris, My ceiling is also 9ft. Two risers: 2 x 8 plus 3/4 flooring gives about 8" plus carpet. The ceiling at the back of my theater is about 7 1/2 ft. David
