*** Official 11th Annual HTF October Scary Movie Challenge 2010 ***

Ah....what the heck. The dissertation can wait another month. I like John S.'s way of tallying his viewings, so I'll adapt it: B - Blu Ray Viewing D - DVD Viewing R - DVD-R Viewing S - Netflix Streaming Viewing T - Theatrical Viewing V - VHS Viewing Red Title - Denotes...

    Re-creating the double-features of childhood

Man, Dick, but your post brought back a flood of memories. My local theater (my town was so small that it only had one hardtop theater and one drive-in) almost always showed double-features when I was a kid. I saw one when I was in fourth grade (this must have been late 1971 or early 1972)...

    Big Lots Sale

Actually, REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN is a stand-alone from Sony. It's not in their Hammer set. You may be thinking of THE EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN, which is in the Universal set. Either way, at the moment the only way that I know to purchase REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN is to buy it all by its lonesome.

The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I just got back from perusing the dump, er, excuse me, VALUE bin at Wal-Mart, and I was rather surprised to see the large amount of horror titles in it. I picked up HALLOWEEN 4 and HALLOWEEN 5 (the Divamax editions), along with one of the Dimension Extreme titles, NIGHTMARE DETECTIVE. Also...

WE NEED MORE B-MOVIES ON DVD!!!

As a matter of fact, Oldies.com lists three of the four movies you listed above currently in stock, Marco. They have: THE WILD ANGELS/HELL'S BELLES - $11.95 WILD IN THE STREETS/GAS-S-S-S-S-S-S - $12.74 and, most unbelievably of all, PSYCH-OUT/THE TRIP - $6.95 I tried ordering this...

"Student Bodies" DVD coming June 3?

Apparently, Legend Films (the colorization folks) has sublicensed a batch a films (including STUDENT BODIES, THE SKULL, THE SENDER, HOUDINI, KING OF THE GYPSIES, and lots more) from Paramount. The Legend Films website lists April 1st as the release date, but DVD Drive-In reports that the films...

Your favorite horror films on dvd

Marco, just a heads-up...the single-disc release of FRIDAY THE 13TH is a weird hybrid version that, as compared to the US theatrical version, has a longer first murder but a shortened final murder. The double-feature disc from Paramount of FRIDAY THE 13TH and FRIDAY THE 13th, PART II has the...

What is the "Best Sounding" DVD in your collection?

The Korean film A TALE OF TWO SISTERS. It has wonderfully naturalistic directional sound, and a gorgeous score that has full, but not overpowering, bass. The DTS track sounds a bit more enveloping than the DD track.

The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Wow, but this thread has been quiet. *crickets chirping* *more crickets chirping* So, I got a tip on another board yesterday that Wal-Mart had put out some horror titles in anticipation for the Halloween rush, so I moseyed down there last night to check things out...and bought six DVDs...

Tales From The Crypt (1972) on Sept 11.

Actually, FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE is coming out through Warner Brothers in the "Twisted Terror" box set along with DEADLY FRIEND, DR. GIGGLES, EYES OF A STRANGER, THE HAND, and John Carpenter's TV movie SOMEONE'S WATCHING ME. All six will also be released individually. What it REALLY only...

The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I figured that I'd jump-start this thread again, since it's been several weeks since there's been anything. I hit the bin tonight, and there seemed to be an adequate selection, but nothing that I've never seen in there before...except for ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. In my dump bin, BOTH versions...

***Official 7th Annual HTF October Scary Movie Challenge***

Bob, I know you meant to type "Boris Karloff"--such are the effects of watching so many horror movies in a short amount of time! I failed miserably at this, my first challenge. I had hoped to exceed 31 films; instead, I petered out at 27. Oh well, there's always next year. Favorite new films...

***Official 7th Annual HTF October Scary Movie Challenge***

THE GHOST OF DRAGSTRIP HOLLOW (1959) First-time viewing! Ouch! My love for all things AIP just went down a notch! This movie, about hot-rodders who lose the lease on their hot-rod club digs and go looking for a new one, is simply awful. As such, it will require many more viewings to try to...

Your ONE Most Favorite Film of All Time?

As the thread topic asks for my one favorite film (not to be confused with what I think is the "best" film), my vote goes (and has since it debuted around six years ago) to CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. I think that the reasons for it being my favorite film are not entirely clear, even to...

***Official 7th Annual HTF October Scary Movie Challenge***

10/18 -- BLOOD OF DRACULA (1957) Mere words cannot describe my love for all things AIP. I'd seen this film once before and found it to be pretty weak, but I can honestly say that I saw it in a whole new light this viewing. First of all, vampire chicks in tight sweaters are HOT, even IF their...

***Official 7th Annual HTF October Scary Movie Challenge***

I watched Lewton's ISLE OF THE DEAD last night for the first time...does anybody here really love this film? When the film was over, I felt that it was just barely above average. The last thirty minutes were great, but the first forty minutes were a complete slog to get through. If you were to...

***Official 7th Annual HTF October Scary Movie Challenge***

Alright, since I didn't play last year, I'll give it a whirl this year. I'll list all the films I watch here by updating this post. I decided that, as I've seen very few good horror movies in the last few years, I'd go back and view (or review) some of the classic films of long ago. To decide...

The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

My local Wal-Mart had a new display of $4.88 titles, all of which are MGM releases from the past few years. There were far too many for me to remember, but here's a partial list: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Meteor Love at First Bite The Magic Sword The Brood C.H.O.M.P.S. Blow...

    Possible new INVASION('78)?

Bad news (or good news, I guess, if you're into saving money)--it's the same transfer from the previous release. Non-anamorphic, with commentary and fullscreen trailer as the only extras, despite what several online retailers have listed. So if you've got the earlier release, there's no reason...

TV Shows you want on DVD but highly doubt they'll come out.

At the very, very top of the list (although it will NEVER come out due to music clearance issues) is THE WONDER YEARS. Right under that would be AMAZING STORIES. Others that I would love to see: BOSOM BUDDIES FAR OUT SPACE NUTS THE GHOST BUSTERS (w/Forrest Tucker) KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT...
