Mr. Ebert along with Mr. Siskel were the first and only "rock star" critics. He had an enduring wit, and will be missed.
I doubt anyone will come along to fill the void he has left in film criticism.
I'm not a big fan of "stingers" (after Credit scenes), unless they are completely trivial. A small joke or something like that is fine.
I think the first "mid credits" scene in The Avengers was reasonable. It's separated from the main body of the film so that it serves as its own thread...
A new update places the total at 205 million.

This movie is a monster that keeps going up with each revised estimate. I think the actuals will be at or near 210.
Amazing.
The important thing to take away from his answer is that RDJ is not going to be replaced anytime soon.
He was answering a hypothetical question, and I for one liked his answer. I am completely tired of studios retelling the origin story when they switch actors in these superhero films. If you...
I know I'm going to get shrugs of indifference or exasperated gasps, but I don't like the direction Nolan's Batman films have gone since Batman Begins. They've morphed into superhero movies that are inappropriate for kids.
The Dark Knight was a good movie for adults, but not one an excited 8...
No. It's my logical assumption. I don't like or follow any Star Wars expanded universe storylines. I'm not ignoring anything. In the movie Obi-wan says Sifo-dias was killed 10 years ago. And Jango Fett himself says he was recruited by a man by the name of Tryrannus. It just makes sense that the...
Palpatine is behind the entire war from the beginning in the Phantom Menace. He manufactured the conflict to gain power over the Republic and destroy the jedi. Only his apprentice Darth Tyranus (Count Dooku) knows about the clone army. The separatist leaders are not privy to the full details of...
Unfortunately, Sony has the rights to Spider-man so they will not me able to even reference his existence in paramount/disney's Avenger movie.
It would be cool though.
Kung Fu Panda was most likely given a 2D screen because it is a film that skews young. Many small children, less than 7, will not put up with 3d glasses. They are catering to families with young kids.
The studio was preemptively trying to save face after the low initial tracking numbers. There's no way they were "expecting" a low to mid 30's opening for a Spielberg produced summer tentpole with a long marketing scheme including a Superbowl spot. This way they can say they were happy...
Hulk's never lifted Mjiolnir in the comics. He did in one of the animated movies but those aren't considered canon. The only mortals to accomplish this in canon are Beta Ray Bill, Captain America, and Eric Masterson. Saw it again and 2D and wow what a difference. Much more enjoyable the...
Hence, a select few others. He just wanted to know if it was strength alone that let one lift the hammer. The answer is no. I'm not a big Thor comic fan. Feel free to explain that character's back story.
According to Marvel lore, only those who are worthy can lift the hammer. It really just means Thor and Odin; though various comics have let a select few others effect Mjolnir. I believe Captain America lifted it once, and the Hulk was actually able to use his physical strength to lift the...
I don't believe this is a spoiler but just in case: When Thor is stripped of his powers by Odin, he also loses his armor. He appears on earth wearing more common clothing.
Just in case.. When I mentioned the myopia of older SW fans, I simply meant the many older fans, especially those without children, focus on their own history with Star Wars. They forget that this series plays to children of newer generations; those that have never seen a big screen Star...
Kids are a renewable resource. By the time TPM comes out in 3D the target audience (kids under 13) will never have seen it on the big screen. The myopia of older fans is astounding.
I have to respectfully disagree.
The entertainment landscape has changed dramatically since Jaws, E.T., and Star Wars were originally released. They may have ushered in the era of the "blockbuster", but they definitely did not have the same level of competition with other tentpole films let...
I don't think it's possible to have an apples to apples comparison with films released in separate decades. Each has different obstacles to overcome and more and more competition for the entertainment dollar. (TV, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, VOD, video games, internet, changing culture)
Gone with the...
It seems pretty ground breaking to me. Before the release of Avatar you heard:
This movie has no bankable stars3D is just a gimmickWho on Earth would greenlight this kind of a budgetCome on, it features Blue cat people.
And now that Avatar has proven to be successful beyond everyone's wildest...
I was interested in a few of the 2010 releases "Daybreakers" "The Wolfman", until I saw they've been placed in the dumping ground of Winter.
I'm also slightly surprised that "Percy Jackson" is being completely dumped. Sure it's a blatant rip off of Harry Potter, but It's not being released...
Man, it looks like a weak year for blockbuster event movies. I guess that writer's strike is showing its effects. Harry Potter and Transformers are the only sure bets in my opinion. We haven't even seen a moving image from Avatar, so I don't have any sense of anticipation at all.
I watch the movie, and occasionally deleted scenes. Personally, I don't care at all about how the film was made or if the people involved liked each other. However, I do like extras that detail parts of the fictional world not delved into in the film itself. (the BD live Popup track on...
