Hi everyone,
Long time no posts from me. I've got some videos of my home theatre which you can view on YouTube (link below).
I recently upgraded to LIFX Z LED strip lights and here is my review:
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in asking!
Cheers,

Robert Easiest litmus test: go to your favourite AV store and sit in a home theatre set up which has different speaker arrangements. EG, floor standing, mounted from ceiling, mounted flush in ceiling, etc. For my taste (and I think this is what it boils down to), I tend to notice the...
Robert, Do yourself and your centre speaker a favour, either reposition the centre channel or buy a perforated screen. Obviously its cheaper to try repositioning the speaker (free!), otherwise a perforated screen will be a $1000 extra cost on top of your screen price. The next best place...
RE picture quality, its a case of lumens and optics. The optics used in a projector greatly determine the amount of distortion a lens exhibits in projecting an image. Therefore, what you need to do is project an image displaying a grid pattern and see if you can make out any pin cushioning...
Thanks Kevin ~ very nice mount by Monkey Man. I'm aiming more towards a particle board for the base, a wooden frame, finished with plaster board on three sides to make it blend in with the ceiling. Somebody must have seen this!?!?!?
Thanks - I had a play with the idea on a scarry ladder and it seemed better that I angled it. Anyone know of some URL's on how to build a projector box? Thanks,
Just thinking about mounting my new Panasonic AE700 from the ceiling. If I were to make a projector box, should I make it level with the floor or angle it less than 30 degrees towards the screen. I can't set it up on the same level to the screen unfortunately (doors at the back of the room)...
Chuck, In answer to your overall question, no you don't need a screen ~ but... It does improve the picture quality if you are using a lower lumen output model. This is because bought screens can gain up the luminance but a factor of .1 or more. Also, you could hide your center (even front...
Lynda, Just a little tip about screen size and screen door effect (pixels or dots). The closer you sit to the screen, the more likely you are to see the matrix which makes up the picture (either the LCD panel strucutre, or DLP micro-mirrors). A good rule of thumb is, sit at least 1.5 times...
Josh You really can't beat the impact of a FP when it comes to wow factor! An entry level projector ($1500 US) will easily give you a 92" picture, and so long as you are sitting twice the screen width from the screen, then you'll see no screen door effect. As for screen, you have to put...
Another issue to consider against RPTV is the limited screen size. For under $2000 you can comfortably get a 92" wide screen image. I think the largest RPTV you can get for that money would be 42" (maybe 50" for a cheap brand ~ READ: don't buy it).
I've got a SP5700, and I never see the rainbows. My wife does occasionally. The best example which gets her every time is in TLOR ~ Fellowship, when they are on the mountain side and its snowing. Bright scenes are supposed to do that - if your prone.
Is there any loss of quality if I install RCA splitters on to my component out from my AV amp? I'm restricted by the one output, but have two display devices (TV and Projector). Currently I have been swapping them manually but this has become very boring, and I can't seem to find an AV switcher...
Doug, Sounds like the problem stems from your copies of Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. Are they copies from another country? If so, the problem is purely software. Your DVD player is trying to make the most of the source material, but another hump in the equation could be if you are...
Perfect! That was the answer I was looking for. The projector will eventually be mounted to the roof, so that won't bother me RE seeing the projector. I knew Physics 101 would come into play some how! Now, all I need to do is grab video essentials and see if there is any distortion...
Thanks Parker Clack I'm currently shooting on to my wall, but what what I need to know though is, do you put a projector as close as possible to the screen, or furtherist away? The noise issue isn't a problem thus far, although I haven't watched a romatic flick on it yet. Just the big block...
Also, the optics might play a part in the answer. You could say the optical distortion is greatest at high zoom depths, versus, minimal at the low end. Your thoughts, Chris V ;)
The following question is dependant on a few things: 1) The screen is a fixed 16:9 ratio of 90 inches. 2) The material viewed is always widescreen, be it from 1.78 to 2.35. Knowing this... Do you mount a projector the minimum distance (read: closest) to the screen to improve...
Does anybody have a retractable screen in their media room, and if so, have you ever had any problems with it 'blowing around' from the airconditioning? I'm considering my options for a media room which will have two functions: TV viewing, and movie viewing. To do this, I figure I need to...
